Hi Everyone!
I have been lurking here for a while now and am so grateful to this community for your combined knowledge/inspiration.
Now-- to the good stuff. My SO and I started shopping a few months ago as total novices. We landed on a 1.91ct ISI1 measuring 6.57x7.86.
We carried on to select a jeweler to complete our custom design and gave them some inspiration photos. I was originally drawn to antique settings like this: http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/rings/2-48ct-antique-cushion-cut-diamond-ring.html#.U8IZ8ee9KK2
I love the airline when done properly. Also; I am looking to get maximum finger coverage on my 7.5 athletic finger.
Then, I wanted to combine elements from the Singlestone band/setting so many of us have loved:
http://singlestone.com/index.php?page=collections&catID=3&pID=1974&startRow=23
My jewler returned this CAD. While I think we are on the right track-- this markup is far from what I was hoping for.
A few questions:
1. Thoughts on keeping/ditching the airline/halo? Is the look to risky if done improperly?
2. Right now this looks like a cocktail ring; what do I tell the jeweler to minimize that effect? Tilt the halo? Reduce the gap? Redesign the basket? All of the above?
3. Should I ditch the original drawings all together and ask them to duplicate thus ring?
Your opinions and criticisms are all welcome. Again- we are beginners.
We have a 15-18k budget and have spent about 12k on the stone. And, yes, we paid too much for the stone. I am dealing with a headstrong man, here.
