Hi all,

I have a beautiful Mine Cut diamond engagement ring from my first marriage. It was purchased at Long''s Jewelers for $1000.00, and I have the appraisal which stated that it was worth $1250.00 when purchased in 1999. The appraisal from Long''s states the following:

One Lady''s diamond engagement ring consisting of an old European diamond set in a six-prong filagree style mounting crafted of 18-karat yellow gold.
ESP7353
Diamond specifications:
Color: H/I
Clarity: SI1
Weight: .45 Carat

I adored this ring but am now at the point where I''m ready to sell. I also have a wedding band that was made to go with it. Unfortunately I do not have a digital camera capable of producing a clear picture.

I was wondering if you could give me any recommendations on how to go about getting an appropriate amount of money when I sell, where to go, etc.

The entire ring and setting is the prettiest, most feminine and one of the most unique and beautiful rings I''ve ever seen. I am only selling because I am moving on to a new relationship and I''m ready to get rid of my skeletons.

Thanks for any help you can offer!
Sincerely,
Erin Matlack

HI Erin,

Your best bet would be to take it to an appraiser who is familiar with old stones and have it appraised for resell (resell by you).

With that being said if you are just trying to do your own estimates...I looked over on old world diamonds and I''m estimating
the price of your stone would be around $600/700 (of course a lot depends on what shape your stone is in.)
old world diamonds web site:
http://www.oldworlddiamonds.com/inv.php?SHAPE=OM

I had to look at all 3 different types of stones to get an estimate. Not sure how to estimate your setting. I''m just going to
throw out a figure to get to a bottom line. Lets say $500. So total might be $#650 + 500 = $1150.

So...the not so good news is that ring/stones being sold by end users typically only sell for 30-50% of there value. 50% might
be if you can find another individual to sell it to. 30% would typically be what a pawn shop would buy it for.

If you can find the right buyer (who is into old world stones) you might be able to do a little better. You can try ebay,
or diamondbistro.

Here is a thread you should read written by an appraiser...

Good luck

I also agree that the ''bistro is the best way to go. It doesn''t seem that this ring has any emotional attachment in your heart. The reality is it will probably get your $500, but probably a bit less based on my observation on ebay and the bistro. Good Luck with your sale!

Erica and Grace from Jewels by Erica Grace take consignments. They specialize in vintage cuts and I can personally attest that they are amazing to work with!
