I need help I have been looking and watching every one post such beautiful diamonds . I have returned at least 10 by now . I have a Radiant but that I just knew was the one , HPHT G VVS2 . I waited for it to be set to be so disappointed by light leakage. On paper it was perfect I think , but I must be missing something to keep getting bad ones. Please look at this return and tell me what I did wrong .

Hello - and welcome!

Radiants by nature are a very "leaky" cut - it's very hard to find one with the desired light return and sparkle. Many radiants have a "crushed ice" appearance and tend toward "mushiness" toward the ends. And the VVS clarity of the above stone honestly is overkill, as the facet patterning of the radiant cut will hide many impurities.

Where have you been looking? Do you have any light return imaging like an ASET image?

Are you dedicated to this cut or are you open to other cuts or shapes?

Hi!
I currently have a radiant that I lucked out on as it’s beautiful. But, for our 40th anniversary I am in the process of getting a Jann Paul 3 stone Emerald Cut (I seem drawn to the rectangle cuts - although I like round and oval is growing on me!)

Do you live anywhere near NYC? There are a few PS recommended jewelers who are there and you can go and see the stones and use their expert opinion as well. You really can’t tell until you see it in person. Did you see your current stone before you set it?

I also bought an ASET scope so I could check stones for leakage and light return. The specs on paper are a good starting point, but videos, ASET and seeing them in real life are all part of the process.
The other important thing to do is get a gem ring holder (cheap on Amazon) and wear the stone around in different lighting conditions.

I am NOT an expert, but I went and looked in the PS search feature and realized another thing you might want to look for is a GCAL report instead of GIA/ISI etc.

The GCAL looks at 8 factors when evaluating a diamond. They give you images of brilliance and light return so it will help your search process. Here is an example. https://www.adiamor.com/Diamonds/5....-Cut-Radiant-Diamond/D52318449?rfr=pricescope

Hello , thank you !

I am a fan of princess cuts but was trying out the radiant cut . Ugh this is so hard since I live in rural town outside of Atlanta Ga .

I have been looking mainly on line Rare carat , Ritani , Adiamor , Stonealgo , Dreamstone , etc.

I have not seen any light return imaging . Mistake #1 .

I am not a fan of oval , pear, or round . My hubby loves the round and I tried that and absolutely hated it . I think I need to stick with square radiant or princess cuts.

What is your desired budget, size, color, and clarity?

Hi Momofive, I live currently in small town outside of Atlanta Ga . I am sure there are stores in Atlanta , but I am terrified to Atlanta alone .

I did not see my stone before it was set other than in the 360 and that was a joke . I studied the lab report and again that was a joke . I

I love GCAL just have been trying to stay with HPHT , since they tend to be cleaner from what I have seen . I don't care for the cut lines of CVD not sure what they are called .

May I ask where to purchase the ASSET scope from ? I do have the diamond ring holder .

Thank you for all the good tips and advise , cause I am so over whelmed .

I will take a look at that one you listed . Thank you

What is your desired budget, size, color, and clarity?

15K and under , 3.75ct min up to 4.5ct , Hpht if possible . G and open to clarity as long as I clean.

My desired shape is radiant or princess .

I got my ASET right here on PS. https://www.pricescope.com/tools/aset-scope
I also don't blame you for not wanting to venture into Atlanta at the moment. My brother in law and his family live in what used to be Dunwoody. I felt the same way about NYC, but I went in during the day recently and didn't have any problem.

I think that stone I sent might be CVD, and yes, you have to be careful with them. Not that they are all bad, but they require more scrutiny. My EC from Jann Paul is CVD, but they have extremely strict guidelines and protocols in place that the experts on here told me I shouldn't have to worry about anything. But, that being said, I will still post the stone on here before I accept it, just to be sure.
