I'm back after a long hiatus from Pricescope - you all helped my now husband and me pick my engagement ring back in 2011 (AVC in platinum Vatche solitaire). I am now pregnant with our first child, and are looking for a piece of jewelry to mark the occasion. Since I've been gone for so long I know there are beautiful new things that I don't know about, and would really appreciate your help shopping. So - if you were me how would you spend up to $2,500 (between $1,500 and $2,000 would be the sweet spot)?

Things I already have:
- engagement ring/band (attached a picture)
- 1.2 ctw diamond studs
- .8 ct diamond pendant

Here are some of my initial thoughts:
- I like the idea of a diamond ring to stack or wear alone on my right hand
- I've been attracted to bezel eternity/half eternities for a while
- I don't wear bracelets often
- we don't yet know the sex, and I'm not sure if I would want that to weigh into the decision, but maybe

Thank you i advance for your help!

Congrats on the upcoming birth of your first child, what an exciting time.

Please excuse me to throw a wet blanket on your idea, rather than spend up to $2500 on a piece of jewelry for yourself, wait until the baby is born and you have its Social Security number......open a 529 College Savings Plan, read and learn about the fantastic benefits of saving for future college education for your child. He/she will thank you more times over than your piece of jewelry.

Congrats again and best of luck.

What an odd thing to immediately assume that the OP is purchasing something at the expense of providing for a child.

OP, I love adding stackers! However, if you wanted to save a diamond band to commemorate an anniversary, I think one that featured future child's birthstone, or another birthstone-type ring for your right hand would be lovely :)

^^^ Hehe..If all we did was hoard cash for retirement or kids' college fund, then this forum would not exist. 8) It's important to have some fun with money as well as save for the unpredictable future. Balance ya know.

I second the stacker with the baby's gemstone or an engraved wedding band stacker could be fun and practical as well.

Where did you read in my post buying something at the expense of the child? Re-read my post.

As this is a diamond enthusiasts' forum, it's not the appropriate place to make recommendations on how one should spend one's money (outside of jewelry). It would be one thing if OP asked for our opinions on whether to buy a piece of jewelry vs. putting it towards college savings- but that's not the case. She only asked for opinions on choosing a piece of jewelry to celebrate the birth of her child.

OP, congratulations! I have a bezel eternity band from ID Jewelry that I love. I highly recommend them if you decide to go that route- you will definitely get quality and bang for your buck. I think that a bezel eternity would look amazing with your lovely wedding set.

Your wedding set is beautiful.

You mention bezel. Have you considered the Danielle Jazz Bezel by WF? Even in platinum, its well within the budget and would look lovely stacked with your wedding set.

Just a thought! :))

I think its ok to post the link.

Thanks, December Fire. This looks like a great option, well within budget!

Hi Willy Diamond -

My husband and I agree and plan to open a 529 account and fully fund our child's education. This purchase will not interfere with that plan. Thanks for your concern.

Elizabethess - what a great idea to do something with a birthstone. I'm due in late June, so could be Pearl/Moonstone/Alexandrite or July's birthstone which is Ruby.

Thanks, NYC Spring. I did find it a bit odd to get investing advice on a diamond enthusiasts' forum. I usually head over to Bogleheads for that type of thing. ;)

Is there a link to the bezel eternity band at ID Jewelry or did you work with them on a custom piece?

I'd get a sparkly stack band! (And then raise smart kids who get scholarships like mine are doing/did

Here is a link to the bezel eternity that I bought! The picture on the website is actually of my actual ring on my hand (they posted it on Instagram a while back)! My ring was made with platinum, 3 pointers and milgrained bezels. You can choose just about any pointer size/with or without milgrain/etc. With your budget, you can definitely go bigger than 3 pointers with the diamonds. :naughty:

I love this band! Another vote for this bezel band!

Btw, nycspring, you need to be a hand model if you aren't already!

How about pearls? Ladies in the Pearl subforum can you help pick out a nice strand of tahitians or one fab pearl for a pendant. Lots of feminine and maternal associations with pearls. My mom gifted a pearl pendant to me on the birth of my first.

nycspring - Very pretty! I am considering this ring for a wedding band. Do you happen to know the width and height of your ring? Also is this a Gabriel and Co. ring or a custom ring? Thanks!

OP - Maybe you could get a couple stack rings with IDJ pricing! :D

PintoBean- aw thank you for the compliment! ::)

tweeter8177- the width is about 2.7-2.8mm and the height is about 2mm. My ring is not from Gabriel and co. (Though I'm pretty sure that IDJ carries/can order Gabriel and co's bezel eternities as well!) I believe the ring was made by IDJ's bench using an Adwar cast (and I think- but don't quote me on this- that whiteflash makes some of their bezel eternities using adwar casts as well?) The price is lower when you choose a pointer size that is available in a cast, and there are many sizes available. They were also prepared to make one custom when I was considering an "in between" pointer size, and that was quoted at a higher price. Always ask them for pricescope quality stones! ;)) I bought my ring two years ago, so things might have changed a bit but IDJ always delivers great jewelry at great prices- most of my little collection is from Idj! :)) Here is a link to my SMTB thread for more pics and details: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/gorgeous-milgrain-bezel-diamond-eternity-band-from-idj.210334/

Thank you nycspring!!! That is actually what I am looking for!!! I saw the Gabriel version locally but it is wider at 3mm and the quality of the stones isn't that great (I1 quality and it is $2K+ just for white gold). I just looked at your stacking thread too, which is fun!! Thanks a ton! I enjoy wearing my solitaire solo but want to get a band. The bezel band has been my favorite so far!!

I would do the Danielle jazz band and add it to your wedding set as an all the time piece vs RHR. What about alternating blue or pink sapphires for boy or girl? Just my 2 cents! Have fun!

Yes - I was thinking about the alternating blue or pink sapphires! What are people's thoughts between the Danielle jazz and the Brian Gavin Diamonds bands?

First of all, congrats! This will be a very special piece! Both rings are gorgeous and will be lovely with your existing set....the WF version is not a full eternity and easily sizeable which might be a better choice since finger size may fluctuate.

They are different widths too - 2.1 vs. 2.35. How wide is your wedding band?

I got a band from Bev K (pink sapphires in rose gold). I really like the idea of stacking rings. Congrats!

My wedding band is 2.5mm, so maybe the 2.35 one would be a better match?

I love a bezel band in either pink or blue sapphires, or a diamond and birthstone piece of jewelry in the child's birthstone! I also love heart jewelry and a heart shaped diamond with a small stone for the birthstone above would be lovely too. Or how about a tag pendant with the childs name and a heart shaped diamond embedded in it?

I hope you can find something you really love! Congratulations on your first baby! I love that you are planning something to commemorate the day, I wish we had had the funds to do that. DH has been making up for it though.

Congratulations on expecting your first-born! :appl:

A few PSers have made some really lovely moonstone RHRs. I know you're undecided still, but I wouldn't rule this out entirely.

If you decide to go the colored stone route, there is an entire section with knowledgeable, resourceful CS gurus. (Not sure if that was around when you were last on PS.) :wavey:
