Hi. Finally found my OEC 1.77 K color and can’t seem to decide between these 2 setting options. Here are the requirements for the setting:
  • protect the stone/girdle-bezel,8 prongs
  • Low setting ( comfort fit)
  • Allows light for maximum brilliance - setting doesn’t close off the pavili
  • Mix of ornate/modern/vintage
  • 2 tone or yg

  • option 1: something similar to cvb dahlia ring. With the shank to be like this : E0ACC396-FE8D-45FD-BD1E-79EE373B4D97.png

Option 2 - a bezel design with open basket similiar to this LAD design. With a very thin bezel metal having some sort of vintage design ( see below for inspo)

I love both looks but worry that they may make the diamond look small. Anyone care to chime in ? Any preference

I vote bezel because it will enhance the size appearance, protect the girdle and well....I’m a bezel lover. :)

I vote Dahlia, I wish I had an oec so I could have the Dahlia setting. It's so beautiful like a flower.

But in saying that I love bezels too. You can't go wrong with either :)

I love the first one! but they will both be gorgeous so you really couldn't go wrong.

What is the girdle thickness and what does the inclusion plot look like near the edges?

Bezel. When I look down on the dahlia the stone doesn’t look round.

That stone is safe to prong set for my own personal standard. Sometimes old stones have a very thin girdle and a good wack will cause damage easily. I have one that's extremely thin per GIA and I have to be very careful with it.

I prefer the Dahlia.

I own the first ring. I can take some side shots or other angles of you like.

The pear one? How do you like wearing it ? Do you have a hard time co-ordinating it with other pieces because of the antique-ing? Do you feel it made the stone smaller or less bright ?

The pear is mine. I like it. I don't wear it a lot because I have a few things. But it doesn't make it less bright or perform different. Most of my things have antiquing or are just plain old. I don't match any jewelry though or wear bands. I usually only wear one ring at a time.

That's a whole other complicated issue though that relates to stone depth and measurements, though, re: bezel or no bezel and facet performance.

I love the dahlia! So beautiful from the top. I think both the looks you posted help to boost the size of the stone (not that your stone needs it!)

I prefer the Dahlia too! I love how the design enhances the floweriness of OECs

Seems like the dahlia is taking the lead. For those of you that chose dahlia, do you prefer the cvb or the Dk version ? It seems his version looks more like a flower than cvb.
here is the original thread for the DK one

Dahlia. I like CVB’s and DK’s.

Another Dahlia vote

Another Dahlia vote here too. Though all are lovely

Another vote for the Dahlia. Please post some shots of the stone when you get it!

Dahlia +1, it looks so pretty :lickout:

Dahlia too

But ultimately go for whichever setting makes your heart sing!

100% the Dahlia for me. I prefer DKs version because it looks more like a flower to me + I like the shank detail and 2-tone. Depending on your stone I might switch the colours and have the head in white and the shank in yellow.

A vote for CVB's Dahlia. I have a preference for her version due to the head on view.
I'd love to see a bit of a shank modification to incorporate some leaf or flower details.
