Hi all! I did find 2 jewelers who were willing to buy my OEC towards an upgrade. The first jeweler is only giving me $6000 for my diamond and is offering me this K colored pear. The other jeweler is offering me $8500 and offering me the I colored pear BUT with strong blue florescence. I’d obviously pay more for the second but ultimately just want a good diamond. It will be set in a rose gold halo setting. Here are the GIA certs and pics I have. Thank you!9171F0C0-039D-40AF-B943-AF7AF62EFEA7.jpeg333EE0EB-562D-49DF-AAC7-3F7300CAEA6D.jpeg2F1F7C05-CA08-4F3E-A732-67BE304F78F5.jpeg

I’m not a pear expert but you need videos and more pics to evaluate these stones. The numbers alone aren’t enough.

There are some beautiful pear threads you can peruse while you wait for the pear experts to chime in. Do a search for pear in the thread title and you’ll see lots of yummy pears.

Thanks I definitely will!

Definitely more pics and videos. Cant really say much without them.

I am still trying to get the K colored pear to download. Here are some still pics for now

Pears are hard. They dont have very good light return compared to other cuts. They do have lovely a lovely shape though
so it is somewhat of a tradeoff (full disclosure....my ering is a pear). I prefer stones where the rounded end is cut more like
a round brilliant diamond. These are not easy to find but usually have better light return. Since you are at the mercy of a
jeweler you're not going to have as many options. Pears also tend to show more color/tint especially down near the pointed
in so keep that in mind.

I guess you've seen some in person (are those your fingers in the pics above)? Just want you to be happy in the long run.

That’s my jewelers hands I haven’t seen either in person. Was hoping to get some insight on which one might be worth pursuing since one person is in California and the other in New York while I’m in Florida lol

JenRN this is my too sense for what it's worth, I would not consider the pear with the twinning wisps smack on the table. Seeing videos is a must, pears do run into issues with the darkened bow tie. I personally wouldn't reject a diamond due to the presence of Fluoresence as long as it doesn't impact the clarity of the diamond. I realize you have a diamond to sell, trade in etc. Hopefully you'll be given an option of nicer diamonds to consider. Also, I agree chubbier shaped pears are more appealing to my eye, of course you have to love this diamond most of all.

Not an expert by any means, so please take my opinion with a heaping barrel of salt.

Admittedly, not having videos of both severely limits your ability to evaluate the stones. I do like the I SBF a bit more though - the picture of the K doesn’t do it many favours (looks kind of dark in the centre? Maybe it’s the lighting) and also the colour is quite concentrated and yellow along the tip and edges. To me the I looked nice and the bow tie wasn’t super evident at least in the video.

I wouldnt pull the trigger without having a chance to see the stone in person. Is it possible for you to order the stone and return it if you don’t like it?

@JenRN I'm not sure if this is the best way to go about finding a pear. I know you have a diamond to trade-in but have you considered
selling it on your own or contacting Jewels by Grace to see if she can consign it for you? Is this for your main ering or do you have
several rings? A K (even an I) is kind of a low color for a pear IMO.

Have you looked up to see what a diamond like yours goes for with similar specs on the open market? Then taken at least 25% off the top to account for pre-loved? Or looked at what your diamond value would be, and considered Jewels by Grace consignment fees, plus a re-cert by GIA?

I would consider what your stone could get first and while the idea of one transaction may be appealing, are you getting anywhere near to fair value? Or something like a 25% of the value? I would look at that before I even think about stones.

I would then look to see what those stones cost on the open market- check rare carat. You can then see your whole actual transaction cost.

That’s def something I’m going to ask tomorrow!

Thanks for this. I’ll have to do some
Calculations tomorrow!

You might consider posting your OEC on the Pre-loved forum. I know this is more work but it would be nice if you could shop anywhere
for a pear and not be stuck with what two jewelers are willing to bring in for you. In other words ditto @elizat !

Where is that forum? I’d def be interested in doing that!
