So a little while ago, I put up a post about choosing my forever e-ring setting. I think I am going to end up with the BGD Tiffany setting with a 2mm shank, but I am not 100% sure about it. I was taking to my FI about it, and I was complaining I had a better idea what I wanted for a wedding band than an e-ring. I have known for years what I want. A simple diamond band.

So he said "Since you know you want Leon to do your band, and you have a good idea what you want, why don''t you order that first, and than work your e-ring around that? Plus you will get a chance to work with Leon and see if he is worth using for your e-ring."

I love the idea! It is perfect.

So I tried on wedding bands, and my favorite was the Tiffany 2.2 mm shared prong - it looked perfect with my diamond. The 3 mm upstaged my stone.

Tiffany shared prong

Well Leon does a beautiful shared prong

Well than I saw Whitby''s ring. And loved that too. Except I would make it thinner and not do the milgrain

What do you guys think? What do you thing would be better for daily wear and would survive 40+ hand cleanings (both with water and waterless) a day? Any other suggestions?

I

whitby''s ring! Plus, then it won''t scratch your solitare if you wear them together

I really would vote NO on the shared prong setting. I love the look, but it will scratch your solitaire -- mine has

So I vote bead set in some manner, or fish tail type pave even, since the girdles are relatively protected.

Someone told me in another thread that according to Lesley, who''s daughter wears this band, it does not scratch: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/home/ring-details/?product_id=5433 Does leon have anything more like that?

Hmmm....scratching the e-ring would be bad for my sanity and my relationship. That is really kind of a deal breaker for the shared prong look.

I will have to look at his website and see. But I saw a bead set ring today (it looked like a legacy), and I loved it. I had to force myself to look away from it and focus on what I was supposed to be doing.

ETA: I don't know what kind of pave the novo is, but I tried that one on, and neither me or FI cared for the look. It didn't "pop" enough.

I think it is a fishtail style.

Thanks, that is helpful

ETA: So I am settling on the bead, and now I am wondering if I should do milgrain or leave it off?

\Did you try the legacy?

I like no milgrain simply because it changes the color of the metal a little, because it changes the texture, and then the colors/textures on the solitaire and the band would not match

BUT have you seen Diamonseeker''s set? Of course you have an it is killer, so clearly milgrin works too.

.

I vote for milgrain! I love a subtle milgrain on bead set wedding bands. I actually made FI order his wedding band with a small milgrain edge. I think it adds a bit of visual interest.

Dreamer, you immediately came to mind because of the scratching issue you are having.

Don''t do the shared prong Firecracker!

I ADORE Whitbys ring. I personally would do no milgrain though, just because I''m more of a clean lines kinda girl.

I would vote for no milgrain, because I personally don''t love milgrain with smooth metal, and that would limit my choices of e-ring setting to milgrain styles only.

I wear my shared prong eternity band with my e-ring quite often and I haven''t noticed any scratching beyond the normal patina that platinum takes on. I don''t wear them together every day, maybe twice a week, but that''s over nearly 7 years.

I am wearing an LM milgrained band right now. Granted, it is only 1.4mm wide and the diamonds are not round OR beadset (hmmm my usefulness is fading fast!) BUT I have to say that the milgrain is SO miniscule that I have to look really closely to see it. If anything it makes the platinum edge blend into the stones more. I am not a "milgrain kind of girl" - more modern, fluid lines - and I was worried about how the band would go with my e-ring but it is not an issue.

Thank you all so much for you opinion, this is where I am at:

Bead set Whitby ring by Leon
2.2 mm
+/- milgrain: I will ask my FI tomorrow what he thinks

For a ring that is 2.2 mm would single cut stones be better or full cut?

Will the milgrain be compromised if the ring needs a polish?

I think full cuts are better, that is what Old Miner has said before IIRC. In diamonds that small you cannot detect all the facets in the regular cuts, so the single cuts allow the eye to actually perceive the contrast in the facets.

I think that''s a great choice for a wedding band! I would probably do milgrain, but it really depends on your style

There was a thread on this topic, I will have to do a search for it. I remember taking away from it that for really small stones I liked single cuts, but I don''t remember to what point. I am not even sure what size of stone would be required for my ring.

I am still thinking about that one. I am usually not a milgrain person, but as Pancake, pointed out it is so small, it just might help the platinum edge blend into the stones. But I am also going to change the scale of the ring, so I am not sure how that will affect the whole diamond to metal ratio.

Heading to FI's house today. I am going to ask him what he thinks (he has a better eye than I do), and find out if he wants me to get a quote now or wait a few more weeks.
