Hello all...
I've been lurking on the board for information for some time. I have learned a lot! I've finally gotten to the point of purchasing my stone. I was wondering if anyone could give me their thoughts on a stone I picked out online (Below). My budget is in around 5K for the stone. This one comes in around 4.7K. I plugged it into the cut analyzer and it received an awesome .8 rating! I don't have a picture, but I know a lot of you are good with the raw data. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

.90ct/G Color/SI1

Depth %: 62.0%
Table %: 56%
Cut Grade: Excellent (Ideal)
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.19 x 6.17 x 3.83 mm
Crown: 34.5
Pavilion: 40.6
Clarity Characteristics: Feather

The data has potential but it is not enough. You need pictures and preferably and idealscope image. Spending thousands blind just isn't a good idea.

The vendor is Blue Nile. Can I assume that they are pretty reputable? Obviously I can't see the diamond in person, but the specs should tell me a lot about the quality, right?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Blue Nile does has a very good reputation by consumers, especially since they are much cheaper than B&M stores. The problem PSers have is that they are drop shippers, meaning they never see 99% of the stones they sell. You're only given the angles and grading report, which isn't really enough to determine how the stone actually performs, instead of idealscopes, ASETs and magnified pictures other vendors provide.

With the angles you have, it's like walking towards a door blind, but someone first pushes you towards the right direction. It could work...but you don't have enough info to guarantee making it through

Thanks for the info.

Are there any other online retailers that provide the info you described?

Yes--try jamesallen.com, goodoldgold.com, whiteflash.com, brian gavin diamonds.

I agree with the others that you still need more information. Also keep in mind that the HCA is pass/fail, anything below a 2 passes...that doesn't mean that a .8 is a better performer than a 1.8.
