This 5-stone was posted by Jewel Lover a few years ago and I am in love with it. I replied to the post but have not had a response. Has anyone ever seen this ring before? If so, where or who designed it? I am hoping to find the designer before I look into having it custom made.

No idea but it is lovely. I think you might be suprized though...pending who the designer is it might be cheaper to actually go custom. I would check with WF on this design as I think it would be up their alley.

Ohhh wow. That's gorgeous.
Do you have a link to the thread with those pics?

Victor Canera or Steven Kirsch to make it. It is beautiful!

I'd actually recommend casting - if the way the pave'd Us eat into the solid metal "shank" underneath is an element you'd want to preserve, that'd be awfully difficult and time-consuming to handmake. Getting every single one of those cutouts exactly symmetrically sized, exactly symmetrically polished... and since it's plain metal it's doubly unforgiving of any inconsistencies.

Yssie, I am totally new to this and I do not have any idea what the difference is. I am not sure what a cast or benefits are. Would there be different ways of making this ring? Suggestions are so very welcome, as I am in the dark about custom design. I had also thought about getting this done with three larger stones, as I have little tiny fingers and not sure how the five would look. Thank you for any help!!

They're two common methods of manufacturing the ring. Casting is where a wax model of the piece is created, either by hand or computer aided design (CAD), and the piece itself is cast (molten metal poured into a mould created using the wax model). Handforged pieces are created entirely by hand - bits of wire and metal blanks hammered and shaped into rings, different elements soldered together. Both have pros and cons - a well-made cast is going to be a lot more cost-effective, but handforging generally permits a more refined and delicate look - especially with pave. Some designs are much easier to cast, and I think this would be one of them - those cutouts with the pave'd Us are my main concerns (achieving perfectly precisely symmetric size and polish on all those rounded surfaces).

Another PSer had a somewhat similar design made a few months ago https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/half-eternity-marquise-e-w-5-stone-u-prong.180976/

What is your budget for this? Personally I don't see a point in hand forging something like this as Yssie already pointed out. I don't believe in paying $$$$ unless a ton of pave is required. Just my .02cents.

For this I would probably approach WF and BGD to see what they can do. I bet either could do a dead on version.

You probably won't appreciate my last email much, then ;)) ::)

First, the ring is gorgeous! I immediately saw the 5 stones being changed to sapphires or rubies (or other colored stones) w/ the "ribbons" of diamonds in between & I can't stop staring at it.

Second, Yssie or DS can you help clarify for the OP (and others following this thread) why you've suggested those particular vendors. From your posts it would appear that you're suggesting that if she wants to have the ring made via casting, she should look at WF or BGD, and if she wants it hand forged, she should look at VC or SK. Is that correct or am I misunderstanding your input?

Our budget is around $7000. Not even sure what it would cost to have this ring made. I had thought about having a local jeweler take a look at the pics and see what they thought. Is it better to go with an online company, such as WF? Would anyone recommend us finding the matching diamonds ourselves, or having it all done in one place?

Any thoughts on having this done in a 3 stone with a little larger stones?

What a gorgeous ring, I can see why you love it, I hope you find the designer :wavey: Good luck, it's stunning

Very cool ring, I missed it earlier. I like how it could be paired with an engagement ring, but is clearly substantial enough to be worn alone as well.
