Alright folks, so the big day is August 4th.
After being on this forum for a small amount of time, I've learned that I'll never make another major jewelry purchase again unless I've got PSers by my side :D

I do not want to repeat mistakes made in the past by going with a brand name and paying that premium.

My goal: I want a super fun, blingy ring that'll look substantial on it's own if I choose not to wear my e-ring.

I don't mind if the band overpowers the e-ring a bit.

For fun, I tried on some wedding bands from Tiffany's just so I could post them on PS and get feedback on style.

I'm of two minds:

1) get something quite nice like a 5 stone ring with the most amount of carats I can afford

2) get a nice hefty carat ring that's a replica or 'in the style of' a nice branded ring that's distinctive and has a 'wow' factor.

My budget isn't the greatest at around 2 - 3K. We're in Canada, so it's even worse :( I could be persuaded to spend a bit more knowing I wouldn't have to upgrade for awhile.

My FI is going to travel to San Diego for work around April and we might be taking a small trip to NY to buy him wedding shoes.

The first photo is the 'style' I thought might look best. I'm thinking a 5 stone 2.5 ct would be nice looking! But, can I do that for 3K cdn?
I don't mind pre-loved etc to help save more money.
I'm open to any and all options.
I'm getting quite confused over what I can do. I don't want the wedding band to damage my setting on my e-ring though.
I'm not really interested in eternity bands. I'd rather get larger stones than go all the way around.

I also tried on my love: the schlumberger! :D

Have a look on loupe troop and I think you’ll find several options.

Hello fellow Canadian!

Hmm.. I think at that budget you may have to look for something pre owned. Perhaps you can consider a half eternity at 15 pointers (would be close to the same size/look as the 1st Tiffany's band you posted), or a 5 stone with 20 pointers. I recently inquired about a 5 stone with 30 pointers from White Flash and the quote was 5K USD. I wish our dollar was higher. :(2

Thanks for the reply!
Yah, our dollar isn't great right now.
It's at 80 cents, which is better than not too long ago.

What does it mean to have 15 pointers? I've seen this 'pointer' thing referenced quite a bit, but I'm not sure what that means.

I'll have to hunt down stuff on all pre-loved websites. And, of course, ask the PSers to help me out! LOL.

“Points” different name for a carat :))so 15 point stone means 0.15 carat

Oh! I see! So when someone says 20 points, they mean .20 ct per stone. So, if I've got a 5 stone ring at 20 points that's 1 ctw.

Thanks! Now that seems obvious once you 'pointed' it out :lol-2::lol-2:

haha yes!you are right!!!!:)) a couple of months of pricesope and you can get a degree in jewelry slang :mrgreen2:

Looks like you had fun trying on rings! The ring in my avatar is a 7 stone 1.4tcw, so 20 pointers. I would call ID Jewlery and ask how much
you could get for your budget in a 5 stone. A lot of PSers have gotten their eternities, 5 stones, 7 stones from ID Jewelry.

I have a seven stone from whitelfash with 10 pointers. It’s a great size. But if you want something super blingy, 20 pointers would be gorgeous!

Thanks very much for the tip!!

I'm going to see a local jeweler tomorrow. She's telling me that I'll probably be able to do my 5 stone at 30 pointers for around $2000 - $2400 cad taxes in (if I pay her cash)! Quality will probably be VS2 to SI1 and F or G color for each diamond.

The diamonds are gemscan certified (she said I could get GIA certificates if I wanted them).

However, I always appreciate alternatives for price comparisons.

I'm thinking PS is a terrible enabler! :P2 I'm seeing everyone with their gorgeous super blinged out 5 stone rings and I feel the need to go big or go home with this ring LOL.

I'm hoping for 30 pointers if I can swing the price!

PLEASE update us (me!) if you do go with your local jeweller, that is a great price for 30 pointers. I just might have to get her contact info from you. :D
