Hey there everyone, I hear you may be the people to talk to about engagement rings and diamonds!

I've just started my search for the perfect engagement ring. I've done so much reading that my brain is overflowing and I think I need an outside opinion to make sure I'm on the right path. We have a trip planned to Disneyland at the end of January and I really wnat to surprise her with a proposal then. (cliche I know, but Disney parks are her most favorite thing in the world. After me I hope ;-) )

Let me give you some details first.

My budget is roughly $5500 CAD, but willing to spend a bit more for the perfect ring. I want to keep the ring a secret, but have been able to talk out a fair bit of information from her. She likes simple yet elegant things, so I am going to go with a solitaire with a bit of flare. I’ve went to what feels like a million stores in the past week, mainly mall chain store, just to get an idea. I do want to buy the diamond online, possibly with a setting, or find a setting locally and get them to set my diamond. I’ve been drawn to solitaire rings with a few channel set diamonds on the bands and a tapered cathedral style. The bands I’ve been looking at are around $1000 pre tax, which leaves me around $4000 for the diamond. I may also go with a single solitaire cathedral ring and put saved money into a better rock.

The ring style that I most likely am going to go with is something like this:

My main objective is to find an amazing diamond that fits into my budget, I'm aiming for SI2-VS2, color F-H, an excellent cut that really shines. And that's where you come in. Can you guys point me in the right direction of some diamonds that fit this critera?

Thanks in advance!

I really don't care for that setting.

I think you can get a nicer one for that price. As for the stone. I can help you there. Let me see what I can find for you.

Okay so here are the two settings I recommend if you want diamonds in the shank:
1. http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/diamond-settings/legato-micro-pave-diamond-engagement-ring-1011.htm
Or
2. http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/diamond-settings/legato-sleek-line-pave-diamond-engagement-ring-422.htm

What I recommend if you are fine with an elegant solitaire:
3. http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/legato-sleek-line-solitaire-engagement-ring-728.htm
Or
4. http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/comfort-fit-surprise-diamond-ring-183.htm

Stones:
A. http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3461747.htm IF eyeclean. Doesn't say it is though, so it may not be.
B. http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3222864.htm
C. http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3461770.htm 60/60 style stone will favor lots of white light over colored. Nice stone. And eyeclean.

Put the stones on hold now.
Personally I'd go for stone A or C (if A is not eyeclean) with setting 2 or 4.

The setting I posted was just kind of a similiar style to what I had been looking at, not the exact ring. I love the tapered cathedral look with the channel diamonds, and know my SO would too! I LOVE all 4 settings that you suggested! Those solitaire designs are my favorite that I have seen so far, almost making me want to switch back to a simple solitaire!

Those diamonds look great too, I was told to look for the AGS Ideal if I was in doubt about the proper proportions, but all threee seem like they would be stunning. Thanks for all the knowledge Gypsy!

If you stick the recommendations above, you will be guaranteed a stunning ring. There's no bad option, unless you pick something not eyeclean (and you would just have to ask about that .76 carat stone).

Yes, the settings are similar to the one you chose. But they are more refined versions of it.

It's going to be a lovely ring. Just move quick, this time of year inventory moves fast. And those settings are made to order, they are not in stock, so if you want to meet your timeline, you need to buy ASAP.
