please help me find a reputable online dealer who can get me something for my budget:

looking to spend under $8k
look for 1.5c
round cut
loose stone
EGL preferred cert

ty

Why would you prefer an EGL cert?

I dont know why.

I was told by a friend that its the better cert? and that its what Tiffanys uses???

I never considered buying a diamond, let alone spending alot of cash on a diamond, so I dont have enough info.

I''m curious to know why you would prefer EGL as well?????????????

There are many good vendors on this site. Whitelash, Good Old Gold and Wink Jones are three who have many satisfied customers here on PS.

No, GIA and AGS are the better certifications. Do a search here on PriceScope and see what you come up with. But I''ll tell you now, I am also looking in the 1.5 carat range, and you''ll not find a good quality stone for the price you mentioned. You''d come closer if you go to the 1.25 range. Read all about cut, color, clarity on this site and then you''ll be able to better narrow down what you want.

Ty,

You''ll want to do some homework here to get on the right foot. At the top right, search lots of previous posts. In the non mall based world, and where diamond selection becomes a more studied, if not scientific approach, the general rule is:

AGS trumps
GIA trums
EGL

and others

Your friend was wrong. EGL is not the preferred grading lab. GIA or AGS is tops and you can rest assured Tiffany has their own in-house grading specialists to ensure their diamonds meet their strict standards, even if there was any truth to the fact that they use EGL, which I highly doubt.

Either I missed it earlier today, or this one may be new, $8164 based on cash price, and a real possible find.

what color and clarity are you looking for?

So WF offers PS members 5% discount and is very credible it appears?

I color, should have no problems with yellow?

and if the price is $8,373.00, I would get 5% off that? ( http://www.whiteflash.com/diamonds/diamond_Details.aspx?itemcode=GIA-14272182 )

I plan on using credit card to buy.

thanks again everyone, sorry for being such an idiot

I keep looking at this diamond, but when i see the ideal scope it worrys me! then the GIA report shows the same mark big..

how many times magnified is the ideal scope??

thank you

You would have to call whiteflash and have them look at the stone to see if it is eyeclean. Alot of people call them to ask about SI1 and SI2 stones for this reason, so it would be no big deal to have them check it out for you. If you don''t feel comfortable with that stone, then the 1.5 that KIM picked out looks great.

Ty,

Your requirement make the task more challenging (DF are you helping?

)

a) contact WF re their discounts, generally. When considering them, they''ll give you a partial for referencing Pricescope (so I hear), even if you use a credit card (so you don''t have to use wire to get some discount).

b) Scheiner has several, per the Price Stats feature above. You might check them

c) If the search by cut option is not working for you, and your requirements make it demanding, the Price stats option on Pricescope may help you optimize with Pricescope

d) Re the one option from WF I found on the search by cut db above, as Pahofan says, get WF''s take on your concerns. Also, if you use the Price Stats option, you might have WF call one in to compare the one from above to say, this one.

Good wishes,

you''ll have to answer the color question yourself.have you look at any stone yet? VS-2 or SI-1 sounds good to me.

I can see the inclusions easily in the magnified picture of the SI2. I wouldn''t even consider that one. And you''ll need to see some GIA or AGS diamonds in person to determine what colors you''d be comfortable with. I like G and maybe H and wouldn''t consider a J. But, there''s something for everyone, so you just have to see what YOU like! You''ll have to sacrifice color or clarity to get a 1.5 for under $8000.

thanks for the info everyone

someone suggested this stone i am abot to link in my other thread

http://www.whiteflash.com/diamonds/diamond_Details.aspx?itemcode=4350395

what are everyones thoughts???

WF said it had no visible inclusions.

What does medium blue Fluorescne me tho?

Ty,

I think that was me.

Some like flouro; do a search. Many do like it.

I also found the other one from WF here. Don''t forget to do due diligence, and ask them...which, between the two, they might recommend, and why. Then, maybe share with us?

Regards,

My current diamond supposedly has some blue florescence, but it is basically invisible unless you look at it under a black light! From what I have read, it is only strong florescence that you need to worry about as it can make a stone cloudy. And as a matter of fact, some say that some blue florescence is a good thing in the warmer color stones like J. So I wouldn''t let the florescence stop me from considering it.
