I think the second one is a lovely color--my favorite hue for sapphire--I like the lighter/bright Sri Lankan sapphires. Also--glad you're going the unheated route. I like the facet pattern better on the second one, and it appears to have less extinction.

What's the pendant design? Is this a *partner* gift?

A few questions...

Do you need an unheated stone? Unheated stones are going to be quite a bit more expensive especially if you''re looking at the Kashmir ones. What color appeals most to you? Are you comfortable disclosing your budget? You should probably contact some of the vendors listed on the vendor thread and see what''s available. A lot of people have preferred vendors for sourcing and cutting their stones and most of them are very professional and do amazing work.

Well, this is the one I would go for! If the shape suits you that is. It's unheated and stunning. Cut by Jeff White.

I find most of the ones on natural sapphire company aren't that well cut.

I don''t know much about sapphires either! Too be honest they are not really my "cup of tea". Mind you, I was completely enthralled by this thread, and I know it''s not a sapphire, but it might give you some inspiration: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/pictures-of-my-blue-gray-spinel-and-diamond-custom-necklace-project.41612/

Mind you, I do know a man who knows a thing or two about sapphires in our neck of the woods: http://www.jewelsbydesign.com/

I know Llyn Strelau and he does absolutely drop dead gorgeous work and he wins AGTA Spectrum awards. He makes amazing one off pendants if you are looking for something unusual. Check out his entries in 2009 collection: http://www.agta.org/awards/2009-collection.html His sapphire earrings this time around are gorgeous!

Please keep us posted!!

Tropicmaster just finished an extensive search for my ERing blue sapphire. I suggest contacting vendors directly, tell them what you are looking for and they can respond. They may have stones or rough that will work for you that are not displayed on their websites.

Jeff White http://www.whitesgems.com/ had our perfect stone in rough but I also recommend:

John B. at http://www.gemrite.com/cubecart/

Daniel Stair at http://www.customgemstones.com/

Gene at http://www.precisiongem.com/

There is a sticky at the top of this category titled "Sites Selling Colored Gemstones and Jewelry" with links to vendors.

Good luck and do keep us posted.
