Hi Everyone,
Looking to propose to my GF soon and have been pointed in this direction.
I am looking or a .70 carat diamond or best bang for your buck diamond around the 2800-3000 mark.
Has to be round cut, D E or F colour, SI1 or better.
I am overwhelmed by the choice on james allen for these and not sure which inclusions will be noticeable etc etc!

Any help or recomendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Nick

This one is a D: http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.72-carat-d-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-195609 - you'll need to ask if eye clean

Here's an E: http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.70-carat-e-color-si1-clarity-sku-187131

Here's an F: http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.72-carat-f-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-177490

I didn't check the HCA score on any of these diamonds, so you may want to do that yourself - you want under 2:

With JA, you can put 3 stones on hold and ask for Idealscopes on them. The gemologist will also give you his/her opinion on the stones. Remember to ask for the Pricescope discount!

One more thing - I did look for stones in G and H colors as well. If you went down to those colors, you might be able to go up to 0.80+ carats. Or, you can also get a Brian Gavin Blue stone which are almost the cream of the crop when it comes to cut:

Thanks,
Should i be going for something with no Flourescence?

fluorescence is cheaper.

The F looks nice and clean, the d doesnt look to clean but i dont know if i am being picky or not!

Will it be noticeable? or is it pretty much a safe bet with whatever i get as long as it has low flourescence

Thanks

Fluorescence isn't going to negatively affect a stone in most cases. Certainly not in a Brian Gavin stone. They are all vetted by him. It's definitely a personal choice as to getting a stone with or without it, but I'm curious as to why you seem to be leery of it? It's not going to glow bright blue at you except under a black light. The stone in my avatar has medium blue fluorescence.

It's pretty rare for fluoro to have a negative effect on a stone even in the higher colors. The JA gemologist can confirm for you whether the fluoro has a negative effect or not.

Also, there is no such thing as being too picky. You are spending thousands of dollars for a piece of carbon. You shouldn't purchase unless you are comfortable with it. As far as being eye clean, the JA gemologist will also confirm that for you. These diamond pictures magnify the stone like 40x so the inclusions may not be visible IRL. However, if you're not comfortable with it, pick another stone in your budget and ask JA for their opinion.

Here are several true H & A...nice stones:

The E SI1 is the cheapest and looks really nice. Hope this helps. If you get a true H & A stone the cut and performance should be excellent in a MRB.

I would go for cut over color...here's a slightly larger .8 I SI1 H & A:

Yeah the E is really nice! As is the I! The others seem a little bit out of budget but wouldn't be bad choices if you can swing the extra money.

Over budget but these are killer Old European cut stones AVR:

Here's an .85 I SI2 H & A that is over 6mm $2700
Good Old Gold always chooses their stones for their high performance.

For those on a budget I really suggest you go for the best cut stone. In Stones that small clarity is not as important...really hard to see inclusions on smaller stones especially MRB's that tend to hide imperfections well.

I suggest you watch the cut and color videos on GOG to get a good education on these aspects of picking a diamond. CUT IS KING. High color and clarity do not necessarily make a diamond beautiful...excellent cut is what makes the stone beautiful and you can get a lower color well cut stone that will be more beautiful than a poorly cut higher color stone. Being new to looking at diamonds it is hard to wrap your mind around that principle but it is true.

You have come to the right place to learn. Hope this info. helps.
