My sapphire melee arrived! 2mm is smaller than I expected which is silly because I own a ruler. The melee are various shades of green, blue, and yellow.

The plan is for a gradient to show off the tricolor sapphire.

Question? What color metal?
Should I do a double row of melee because of how small?
Should the gradient cover my whole finger (size 4)?
How should the gradient be set? Channel or normal prong?

I lost all of my inspiration pictures when I had to factory reset my phone. 20210408_163120.jpg

This stone is impossible to photograph. It is lighter with more yellow in person.20210408_164202.jpg

Pretty! I always admired that stone!

Will the melee (I mean melly :mrgreen2:) follow the color zoning, or contrast with it, or form a repeating pattern, or just be random...? What do you envision? I am thinking the first or the second but I can not tell how obvious the color zoning is.

The color zoning is not obvious and is different depending on the orientation of the stone. When I get some time, I want to start lining up the little melee and try not to drop them!

What do you think about the metal color? Do you think a single or double row of melee? Thank you!

Four years later, the ring is done and I love it so much. The process was interrupted when my mother in law was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2021 (thankfully she is still with us and healthy). We were spending a lot of money on traveling. Then ADHD gave me multiple new hobbies which circulated back to gemstones last year. The placement of the melee is a tiny bit off, but it is not bothering me. The first pic is in direct sunlight and the second one is fully in the shade. My biggest surprise about the ring is that it looks good in every light.

I'm thrilled to hear your MIL is doing well! And the ring looks fantastic... so unique. Congrats and enjoy!!

thank you!!!! I appreciate that! She is taking a medicine which has been miraculous. The cancer will likely eventually figure it out, but hopefully we continue to get more healthy years.

Best wishes to you all, and have fun with your new pretty!!

Love it! Almost looks like a sailboat on the undulating water! Oh, and I love the vivid pink a few doors down.

Glad your MIL is doing well -- what a ride -- and that you are able to focus on some fun things again.

I love the sailboat imagery. That had not occurred to me, but now I cannot unsee it in a wonderful way. The vivid pink is my pink sapphire wedding ring. 10 years later and I still admire it. thanks for the well wishes!
