I love the OWD ring setting. It's very graceful and elegant. I would also leave the hearts out as I'm not a fan of hearts in jewelry either. I don't think it's set too low but I love the look of low settings and had them set my OEC as low as possible. It's just very appealing to me. So it depends on your preferences. But I do love this OWD setting!

Thanks Missy! Do you wear a band with yours as well? I know you have a similar type setting.

I forgot to mention that it would be 8 prongs instead of 6. I need some ideas for basket design...hmmm....

I have 8 prongs too. And I love the look. The prongs are tiny and delicate so IRL there is no detraction from the main attraction. :sun:
I have 2 WB's that I alternate wearing with my OEC. One is made up of swiss cut diamonds and the other is a simple engraved vintage platinum band. Both are true vintage bands.

For the basket design I would go with something simple but it's such a personal preference that it is hard to make a recommendation. I am sure Adam would have some good suggestions.

<<sigh>> So gorgeous!!!

Ok, I am a bit late jumping in here, but I followed your threads about choosing your diamond and am so excited to see you deciding on a setting for that AMAZING 3.33 M!!!!

I think my favorite for your honker would be the last one you posted, in YG, with 8 prongs, and altering the basket details. I think fleur-de-lis would look amazing for the detailing, my only concern would be the basket looking too busy, especially if there will be 8 prongs. But I am sure Adam's bench could let you know if it would work out or not. If it did turn out to be too busy, I also really like the basket details of Mara and Missy's settings...they are gorgeous too!

I can't wait to see what you pick and how it turns out!

I actually love the OWD setting and Missy's as well. I really think that basic design is most true to the period of the diamonds. I think they work great with the large diamonds because even though the setting is low, the stones sit up a nice height due to their size. I also am just too old for hearts in the setting, so I'd want another design there. But I really like this idea better than the others on the thread. I am leaning this way myself, except I have the problem of my stones being a bit smaller and I am not sure if they'd be too low for me in this setting design. I LOVE the 8 prongs on larger stones, too.

Wonder what the pricing is on this setting?

Also, do you know the size of the diamond in the yg setting? I am hoping it is smaller than mine because I like the setting with a larger stone. (And just FYI, I am not getting that setting. I have other similar crown setting pictures already.)

I think it would sit up high enough for me..but not sure. Missy's looks perfect, but my stone is 3.33 NOT 4.something. So, hers sits up higher.

I found Adam's price to be extremely reasonable...of course I am not sure if things change when you get the stone somewhere else. You should call him and find out though. Really well priced!

The stone pictured in that setting is 1.66 so definitely a LOT smaller than yours!

Why not a fleur de lis design instead of hearts? Somewhat reminiscent of the Sophie?

I LOVE that idea! Adam is sending me a larger picture of the ring so I can play with the design and I am going to try that one out! Thanks, starrylight!

Oh..and DS, I just saw you say you were NOT going with that ring. Sorry, missed that the first time. ;)

Ha! That is what I was planning, actually! Just wanted to say it now so no one would think I had copied! But I think that may work better with 6 prongs than 8 because of more space between the prongs.

LOVE Mara's too! I am going to have to look a pics of all of these together and figure out which design I like!

OMG, how funny DS! Sounds gorgeous!

Oh, I think that design would look amazing with your AVR DS!

My basket detail is different than Mara's but not much IMO. Sort of inverted curved triangles.
It almost looks like M's along the basket side which ofc I quite like. :cheeky:

And by the way, who cares if something is copied (IMO ofc)? I think it is very flattering.

Glad to see a close up of your side view, Missy!!! I just LOVE everything about your diamond and setting!

I have the same attitude you do. I just shared my french cut band idea with brightice yesterday. All antique designs have already been done, so why worry if someone else likes it and makes one, too?!

I am just sort of bummed that my temp setting might take 3 weeks when I could possibly have a new setting made within a week or two of that time. :((

I totally agree about the whole copying thing...especially with an antique style!

That stinks you have to wait so long. Adam said I would need to give him 2 weeks...that seems pretty quick to me. Of course, that is two weeks after I make an actual decision...something I have not yet been able to do. :naughty:

DS, That is a bummer about having to wait 3 weeks for your ring...but you never know. You may be pleasantly surprised and it may be finished sooner. And if not the time will fly by anyway so just keep thinking about how gorgeous it is going to look on your hand and that excited anticipation will hold you till the ring actually is on your hand!

Valmanin, Adam is very true to his word. So once you make the decision I bet you have it no later than 2 weeks. And, he might get it to you sooner. I had it within 2 days of seeing the OEC lol but that's because I saw the stone, decided I wanted it and even though Adam told me to take my time thinking about what type of setting I wanted to go with I picked a setting he had there that needed to be refurbished and his bench was amazingly quick.. It was actually the only one he showed me and I loved it right away. Meant to be. His bench refurbished the setting and set my OEC in it within 2 days. So I saw the OEC for the first time on a Tuesday and had in on my hand on Thursday. Now that's service! But then again I am not so good with waiting as I have no patience (a virtue I just don't have no matter how hard I try) so it worked out for me.

DS and Valmanin, I will say that even though the both of you have to wait a bit it will be *so* worth it. About that I have no doubt whatsoever. And to be honest your waits are killing me a little bit too because I am dying to see your finished rings!!!

I think your lovely diamond would look lovely in any one of the settings discussed here. It's inspiring though when a setting looks superb in your preferred metal choice and the OWD setting just hums in the yellow gold.

I realized that I had not mentioned earlier that the above-mentioned setting from Adam is a replica of Hippi Pixi's antique setting. I think seeing her ring gives a much better idea of how delicate it is...also shows it with 8 prongs. Anyway, still trying to decide what design to do instead of the hearts.

Wow, I had forgotten that! I love these settings with the larger stones! You know, it would be pretty in rose gold, too!

Hi Polished! :wavey:

Thanks for your input. I think it will look lovely, but need to figure out what in the world to do with the design!

Actually, the pictures I posted of the ring above ARE in rose gold. You can tell it's RG more on the front page of OWD's website. The pictures I have make the color look more like YG, but of course that didn't bother me.

I have vacillated (shocking I know) between RG and YG a lot for this stone. I settled on YG because my husband doesn't like RG. However, I have to say, my husband usually comes around to loving things that I like (shhhhh!). Honestly, I think that with a setting that delicate the RG wouldn't jump out at you. We took the 2.71 O-P I had to Jarods to put it next to a bunch of settings a while back and it definitely looked the best by far with YG. So from then on I decided to go that route, but I just realized I didn't do that with 3.33 M and it faces up MUCH whiter and more neutral.

So, thanks DS for bringing up yet another thing for me to be on the fence about!!!

Here's a couple inspiration pictures. I think my favorite is the first one with the fleur de lis becoming part of the prongs.

The integration of the design to the prongs is a solution to issue of how to include several prongs.

I also like this scroll-like work from a James Allen setting.

I was going to post this yesterday, but only had time to draw it out today.
If you're still looking into something a little different the setting at OWD, here's an idea.
Inspiration picture

Doing a delicate bezel around the diamond with milgrain around the inside like Lil Misfit's assher or even prongs with a cathedral. Instead of the traditional cathedral, use something like the VC swirls to build the cathedral. Here was my 10 minute drawing
Sorry for the terrible pictures and bad lighting

This is lovely and you are so sweet to actually draw it out for me. At this point I am going to try and go with a modified version of the OWD ring because I feel like I need to commit to something.

Hi ecf! Those are beautiful! I love the scrollwork too!

Okay so here is one idea of using Adams ring and modifying the heart design...thank you starrylight! Plus making it 8 prongs. Try to remember I am NOT an artist. ;) And please be honest!

Okay...that's so funny. I really thought I was drawing fleur de lis and I look at it again and it looks like hearts! UGH!!!

I love fleur-de-lis too!!! I found these on www.Stuller.com,,, thought it might inspire your drawings.
I am in love with that three stone ring with the fleur-de-lis, where is that from?

I actually like this, but I see what you mean about it looking like little hearts. I like these little hearts better than the very distinct hearts in the original setting, these ones seem to be a little more discrete. I think the issue is going to be that with most settings that have fleur-de-lis in the basket, they are in-between the prongs, and that might be hard to fit in-between when there are 8 prongs. But again, I am by no means an expert, so I am sure his bench would be able to determine that better than I could.

I don't see fleur de lis working on an 8 prong setting at all. I think it works best with 4 but might be possible with 6 on a really large stone. I really like your last drawing and do not think it screams heart like the one with the full hearts between the prongs does.
