Long story short... I have a very good, well to do friend who has created quite a tradition for me and I would like to make her a gift.
As many of you may know I am a breast cancer survivor and October is my birthday month.
Now for the tradition. She gives me a pink gift every day in October, well actually every school day! Some gifts are small... pink tictacs, pink gum, pink ribbon socks, pink pens etc.. However each year and she has been doing this for 7 years now there are a few biggies... Brighton think pink bracelet and earrings , Brighton wallet, last year Coach pink sneakers and a Dooney and Bourke pink tote.
This year so far....
Coach pink sneakers( new pink)
Dooney and Bourke leather pink shopper tote
Dooney and Bourke pink watch
Dooney and Bourke limited edition Disney backpack
Coach sunglasses
Coach pink purse
Coach magenta agenda
Coach magenta cosmetic bag
And she already told me she isn't done yet!!!

She can afford this and gets pleasure doing it. Others who are mutual friends are well gifted also....
So I want to gift her a piece of jewelry
Her favorite color is purple, she likes white metal and her honking ering is a 4 ct emerald in a vintage looking setting. She also wears a round diamond pendant that is milgrained and bezel.

I have 3 oval amethysts that came from India years ago and they are good stones, I have several small round diamonds I could use as well as 2 sugarloaf amethysts.
I also would kinda like to add a pink touch.
I'm leaning towards a pendant I think a ring is too personal, but a bracelet is also a thought.

PS'ers your job if you accept it is to help me create a design, I will be taking to a local jeweler I trust!

Can't wait to see what you guys come up with
Elisa

Re: Help me design a gift.

I cant say this will work exactly sense I dont know the size or amount of the diamonds but what about an amethyst pendant with diamond halo in 14k pink gold?

Re: Help me design a gift.

What a sweet idea! And what an awesome friend she is to you!!

I am probably thinking too simplistically, but sometimes, less is more, KWIM? So my thought was either sugarloaf OR faceted ovals but I wouldn't combine both (if it were me) because then it gets too busy. I immediately thought of alternating the amethyst/2 diamond stack /amethyst/ 2 diamond stack/amethyst - amethysts being E/W and diamonds being stacked N/S to give it a bit of flow and have it set in a slight curve. I would go with RG --- maybe even bezelling the stacked diamonds in the RG and prong set the amethysts???

Sounds like a fun project! Have you been googling ideas? I'll go have an "images" look now to see if anything that I'm trying to describe above, is actually available to look at!

Re: Help me design a gift.

Thanks for the ideas. I was thinking a DBTY style at one point or a journey style drop for a pendant with milgrain bezels
Here are the pics I have. The amethysts are set right now in a pendant and earrings but I NEVER wear them, the diamonds are from stuff i melted down to make my necklace that if I hit the lottery is being redone. As for the 5 stone ring I might give it up for the cause :naughty:
I have no pics of the sugarloafs but they are about 4x4mm, they are actually at the jewelers. She is working on a few designs but i wanted expert opinions!!

Re: Help me design a gift.

I am not an expert! This is just my two cents. I would go really simple. Bezel the diamonds in rose gold for a bracelet. I will add that I know MANY people with GINORMOUS (my own word for above 4 carats :cheeky: ) diamonds worn this way and that way and I see them every week. When I ask them what their favorite piece is they always show me the most simple and sweet piece that is personalized, worn daily, never taken off usually from a very dear friend or loved one. Always so shocking but very sweet and I love that about them. Every client of mine answers the same exact way. Most of the answers are a delicate bracelet or a very small pendant.

:)

Re: Help me design a gift.

Not at all what I was originally thinking, but I kind of like the 'X' here - joining of two hands in friendship, sort of thing...??

Re: Help me design a gift.

OF the above, I prefer il_570 (the 2nd from the bottom) I like the swirl detail with the stones and you could have 2 side diamonds and 1 pink sapphire in the centre??

Re: Help me design a gift.

ok like the simple bracelet i love this but i think my stones might be too big?

My idea of the 2 diamond/1 pink? Yes, I think that would be softer. I'd also see if the swirls could be opened up more - a tad more filigree in nature to allow some more visual space and soften it up a bit. Mind you, I really like your David Yurman style bracelet, too. Maybe the small diamonds from your 5 stone ring, could be bezeled in RG on a WG bangle?

Or alternate with the 2 amethysts that at the the top Right of your original sand dollar photo above? Would they be small enough to work? or a DBTY style, like you had initially thought of? Ah... so many gorgeous possibilities!!

What is her jewelry style - bold, delicate, OTT, lots of items or just a few key pieces? If she's a classic style person, I could see the bracelet idea being perfect - either the bangle or a DBTY because both could be layered with other pieces.

Re: Help me design a gift.

She wears a few pieces regularly. Simple vintage looking stuff. She has 3 piercings, all filled with diamonds of some size. My favorite ones she has are like the bezel ones on JbEG. Everything has a vintage feel to it.
The pendant she wears frequently is very similar to the earrings
The designs I posted all would need tweaking.

Re: Help me design a gift.

hmmm... I think my idea is not the right one for her style!
I really like the detail on the 3 of 4 pendants you've posted - maybe they could be tweaked and milgraining added??

Too simple?

Like this - with your 5 diamonds!

Re: Help me design a gift.

I like the bottom one! Milgrained?

Re: Help me design a gift.

Definitely! Milgraining on those bezels would be perfect! I like the bottom because it has that "journey" look to it...you've had a wonderful journey with your friend ! Ta da! Symbolism :appl: Put the amethyst in RG and the diamonds in WG?

I like it! :D

Re: Help me design a gift.

If she likes vintage, then I think the first and last of your 4 pendant setting examples are the only possibilities. Almost everything else is too contemporary.

Re: Help me design a gift.

DS ... I know what you mean, I was just looking for multi-stone styles. They came from a pretty cool site that has healing symbolic gemstones:)
I will def milgrain. I was also looking for something with an interesting basket. Keep the ideas coming , the jeweler asked me to send her pics if I find them.
I really like the oval single tone. Kind of looks James Meyerish.

Re: Help me design a gift.

Caleb Meyer yummy

That was exactly what I thought!

Love the Caleb Meyer one, too!

Re: Help me design a gift.

Elisateach - love that last opal one you posted!! I think that's the style you are leaning towards... which of your stones would you put in that design? ONe of the amethysts or a different stone?

Re: Help me design a gift.

I emailed my jeweler the first amethyst and the opal as inspiration. I also mentioned more delicate and vintage looking. I'm thinking of the oval amethyst and a small diamond and rose gold. Can't wait to see what she creates . I also ran the idea of the bracelet sent the DY pic.,
