Hey guys, just needing advice on if I'm getting a good deal on this diamond for an engagement ring.

Local jeweler, saying he took this diamond in on trade in.
2.03 natural oval. I, sI2. Excellent polish, excellent symmetry, fluorescent none.

The gia report shows a knot, it's barely visible to the naked eye, and you really have to be looking, almost with a flashlight.

Just need advice on pricing and if I should shy away from this one and potentially find a different one online. Also slightly nervous about buying something for that price online, just not being able to see it in person first. Trying to stay around 8-12k for a diamond. I'm having trouble finding good comparisons, mainly because the jeweler keeps saying how it's an excellent cut and looks great, but I just want some other opinions!

It's the one on the ring fyi. Thanks!

What price were you quoted? And did you use the PS search tool to look for comps for pricing?

I’m not so concerned about inclusions that are internal and you can’t see.

That knot would bother me.
Do you have to have two carats? I would look for a better cut stone with a bit better clarity, even if it were smaller.

That knot would be a no for me. I don't care about inclusions i cant see, unless its a durability concern. An SI2 with knot is concerning to me

What are they asking?

For $11k it's not worth it. The jeweler is basically charging you retail.

You can get higher quality (color/clarity) online. Not to mention selection/choices.

Plus, that's a pretty huge knot. :???:

Need I say more?

That's the way I was leaning. I figured at retail price I can find one online without a knot.

Now becomes the more difficult part of deciding online.

I've been using rare carrot and James Allen, it seems that for roughly the same diamonds it is anywhere from 8-12k with rare carrots discounts. With excellent cut, excellent symmetry, excellent polish, and fluorescent none. Obviously if you go up a grade or more colorless, price goes up.
looks like I'm going back to searching online a bunch!

I've used both JA and RC - RC has lowest prices but JA has a better 100% credit lifetime upgrade terms (only 2x orig spend vs 3X) so might be better going with them depending on your age/time horizon...

For E-ring #1 we bought from B Nile with the intention to someday upgrade to larger / better as life situation permitted.... So underspent back in 2012 on a 1ct and did a upgrade to 2ct for 10th anniv. (retail diamond prices also fell 20+% in that period so was a win / win selling back @ high $ buying low $)

by the way are you avoiding Fluorescence for cultural reasons (ie Koreans dislike) or because the internets say it's bad ?
