I had a Leon ring made in 2006, which I loved. Link: Pixie''s Original Leon Cushion I don''t know when I damaged the setting, but it was probably within 6 months of having it. One day, I noticed that a couple of melees in the band was gone. I took the ring off and noticed that the ring was not round anymore, just slightly warped. I thought it would cost $1K to fix, but it turned out that Leon said that he has to remake the ring altogether because there was serious structural damage! I was pretty bummed. The good thing is that the ring was insured with Chubb, so I got the claim check.

I was thinking of having the same setting made, but I decided that something a little simpler was probably safer. I don''t know if 3-sided pave makes the ring weaker, but I figure that having less melees would probably be lower risk. I really like the 811 Adrianna style, but I wanted to incorporate a few more features that I love. I like the idea of having the pink halo, and I also like split shanks. Do you think that the split shanks would be too busy with the pink halo?

By the way, I have a 2.04 ct cushion H/VS1 and the ring will be a size 3. This will be a right hand ring, and the style I go for is understated elegance (although I love big bling on others like Mariah Carey''s e-ring).

Here is the 811 Adrianna with the pink halo.

I want the halo and shank as delicate as possible. An example of a delicate split shank would be Harriet''s gorgeous spinel. (Harriet, I hope you don''t mind me borrowing your design. I just love your ring!) The only thing I would like to change is to make the split in the shank continue a little more toward the side of my finger, so the split is more noticeable from the top of the ring.

I really love this setting too. Imagine that the halo is pink, and the center stone is white.

Here is a hand shot of a pink halo with split shank. Not exactly the setting I want, but it gives you an idea of how it would all look together. Coincidentally, I have a tanned complexion so this hand shot would give you a better idea of the pink halo on my skin tone.

Sorry for such a long series of posts, but I have finally reached my questions.

1. What do you think about having a pink halo at all?
2. What do you think of the pink halo/split shank combo?

Please give me your opinions, Ladies! My husband happens to be in NYC on business this week, so he is dropping off the cushion with Leon tomorrow, and I''d like to make a decision as soon as possible! The quicker I can make up my mind, the quicker I will get my new ring in my hot little hands, which I''m sure you all understand!

Oh sorry to hear about your ring being damaged and unfix-able.

Maybe it''ll be a blessing in disguise.

I think the split shank setting you posted (with the pink stone) would be really pretty with a pink halo. I couldn''t get the diamond as light as I wanted, but did a quick mock up for you in Photoshop. I hope it helps give you an idea of what it would look like... I colored the stones in the halo as well as I wasn''t sure if you''d do pink stones or just rose gold.

Good luck deciding!

No suggestions on the setting - I love them all.

Question - your cat is soooo cute! What breed is he/she? She sorta looks persian but not completely and not sure if she is a ragdoll or maybe maine coon?

I think they are all beautiful, BUT I would be worried that since you damaged a very delicate ring once just through daily living that it might not be the best idea to go delicate again? I know it''s insured, but insurance can drop you if you make too many claims. Might just not be the right style for your lifestyle.

That being said, my vote goes for something like the adrianna with the split shank from Harriets. Yummy!!!

OMG, thanks Girlie-girl! The photo-shopped picture helps so much! You are so nice to take the time to edit for me!

Hi CharmyPoo - My cat is a persian, but not the type that has a really flat face. I think they call him a "doll-faced" persian. He looks like the fancy feast cat. I have his sister too. They are super-sweet, mellow cats and surprisingly great with my 2 and 4 year old. They''ve been my babies for 11 years already!

Neatfreak - I have thought long and hard about how I damaged my ring. I always take my jewelry off when I get home and don''t usually wear on weekends, unless going out to a nice dinner. The interesting thing is that I did the same thing to my e-ring and wedding band. Within 6 months of being married, my rings were warped. I had to get my wedding band repaired. My e-ring is a tiny bit warped, but you can''t really tell on my finger. I don''t have insurance for those rings so had to pay out of pocket, but it wasn''t very much. I think that happened in 2002 and has never happened again until I got my RHR and warped it in 2007. I have not bent any other rings. I think I''m fairly gentle on my rings, but I''ll have to be extra careful from now on. I love micropave, so I''m not willing to give up on the idea just yet...

Fair enough, as long as you know what you''re potentially in for with repairs down the line. Do you lift a lot of heavy things with your rings on? Or grip steering wheels, etc. for long periods of time and hard? There are a lot of little everyday things that can add up to warping rings sadly.

I was a ''road warrior'' for a few years: all of my rings got bent from laptops and suitcase lifing....

It doesn''t take much. My very thin (just over 1mm) wedding band is always bent.

I''m giving the micropave one last chance. I figure you''ve got to live life without being afraid all the time. I hope I won''t be sorry again!

To answer one of your questions, yes three sided pave is probably THE most likely to bend. After all, there are holes drilled in 3 of the 4 sides of the shank. Hopefully holes drilled only on the top for pave will be more durable, especially since you are fairly careful.

I love a pink halo and almost did that with my pear, but the quote from Leon was around $6K earlier this year. I decided against it based on cost (I was being cheap

) and also I suspect the "pink" trend will look dated soon. If you are open to the idea of a reset when you get tired of it in another 5 or so years, I think it would look really nice now.

I love the idea of a pink halo. And the split shank! I think it will look fabulous!!

Hi PP, I was thinking about the "trendiness" of the pink halo too. I was concerned about halos in general being trendy when I got my first ring in 2006. The reason I was thinking about the pink diamonds is that I have all white diamonds. I wear a solitaire diamond on a necklace, diamond stud earrings, and my e-ring/wedding set. They are all white diamonds. I was thinking that the pink diamond with rose gold halo would add a little bit of color to my jewelry wardrobe.

What do other people think about pink halos looking dated in a few years?

Thanks, Maisie! Not too busy for a somewhat conservative type of person?

I think you its not too busy at all. It will be beautifully sparkly. I am conservative the way I dress but I would definitely wear a stunning ring. Its not like you are covering yourself in lots of bling. One or two carefully chosen pieces look very classy

I would stick with the timeless white diamonds ..... you might get tired of the pink (quick)

Use the pink for a RHR

Just my 2c

Good luck!

I thought so - he is a darling and I would love to see photos of his sister too. Breeders have been breeding such extreme persians and I am really not a fan of the flat faces. I wanted a persian badly but boyfriend was very much against it. I ended up getting a persian/bengal mix that looks completely like a bengal and with a bengal personality (see avator). I am usually against these designer breeding but rescues are a different story.

I also have a Shih Tzu (Waffle) that has an extreme face - although his father is a westminister dog show champ, he still has lots of problems due to the flat nose and huge bulging eyes.

Sorry for going off topic. Me shut up now.

Lovewhitediamonds, this ring IS going to be a RHR. If that''s the case, would you still be concerned about the pink halo?

Charmypoo - Here''s his sister Pixie. The cat in my avatar is actually named Biggy. We were calling him Big Boy for awhile because he was the only boy in the litter and bigger than the others, and then Biggy stuck. We actually bought all 4 in the litter. My parents and sister took 2, and then I took the other 2.

Your kitty is adorable. She looks like a kitten in the picture.

Okay, back to diamond talk. Do you think a pink halo would be too trendy for an RHR?

I want the halo and shank as delicate as possible. An example of a delicate split shank would be Harriet''s gorgeous spinel. (Harriet, I hope you don''t mind me borrowing your design. I just love your ring!) The only thing I would like to change is to make the split in the shank continue a little more toward the side of my finger, so the split is more noticeable from the top of the ring.
No worries. How vivid do you want the pink melee to be? The more intense the colour gets, the more you''ll have to fork out.

Hi Harriet, I am such a fan of all your jewelry!

Yeah, Leon quoted $$$$ for bubblegum pink melees. I''m thinking that I want a soft pink, so I''m not looking for something too intense. But I also don''t want it to look so light that it looks almost white. I talked to Leon briefly about the pink halo a couple months ago so we will have to revisit the whole idea. My hubby finally dropped off the diamond today so I''ll give Leon a call tomorrow to see what he thinks about my ideas.

Thanks and good luck!

Pixie -- it''s all in what you like ... I''m not a pink fan, so I would opt for sapphires, or emeralds around the diamond -- but if you like pink, then go for it!!! I''m sure it would be beautiful, and really it only matters what you think :-)

Lovewhitediamonds - I actually like the picture you posted! It reminds me of my every day china with the blue/green. My favorite color is actually blue, but I also love pink. I think pink would look nicer for a halo, but tonight, I was actually doing a search to see if there were any pictures of blue diamond halos...
