In the process of buying a loose diamond at local jeweler. Here is the Info GIA Certierfied
.80 carat
D - Color
SI1 - Clarity
Cut, Polish, Symmetry - All Excellent
Fluorescence - Strong Blue
Little Cloud that can only be seen under high mag scope
5.94-5.96 x 3.69
Round Brilliant

$3800 for diamond
$4500 with setting and taxes and all.
.12 -.18 halo

You haven't provided enough information, what is the GIA number. Also, an SI1 wont be "little" per se if the main inclusions are clouds. Also, Strong Blue Flouro and D color is a tricky combo. Has the stone been evaluated for milkiness/haziness? The setting has an ok price, but it could be of poor quality..in general we never buy stones that are already set, that is a no-no because you are not able to evaluate the stone in greater detail and the diamond is what is the most important. ASET, Idealscope images?? What is the reason for the D color? You can perfectly fine drop down to F/G and Even H and get a much larger/eye-clean stone.

I didn't notice any milkness or hazy.
it is a loose diamond. What should I be bargaining for if he told me $3800. Can find out more info in a couple of hours as I'm heading there today...what else should I be asking?

there was 3 stones that was brought it and this seemed like the best out of the bunch...I could be wrong though.

Hm.. the stone has a good cut (it could be better), but this is not bad. It scores well on HCA, but I would be concerned about the strong blue flourescense and the inclusions because there is no insclusion plot. yeah just looked at the diamond in the setting....light purplish color outside in the direct sun, but nothing under the overhang. It didnt look hazy from what i saw. any help would be greatly appreciated. Not set locally but figured it was safer...to see stone in person before purchase...any tips are very much welcomed

That's a gorgeous and classic halo.

And white as in those photos. Fluoro usually places downward pressure on a colourless diamond and given you're happy with the Fluoro, I can only say I like what I see.

Honestly, I can't tell anything from the photo, besides the overall style. This setting is pretty standard, here is a similar halo for the sameness price: http://idjewelry.com/14k-white-gold-diamond-halo-engagement-ring-er7815w44jj.html The stone doesn't have an inclusion plot on the report and you have no other images - ASEt, idealscope, magnified photos, etc. so it is not something that I would buy, but the decision is yours in the end. The stone has been mounted, it is not loose, also something that I would not do, because the diamond cannot be inspected, unless unmounted.

he mounted it so I can see what it looks like with the halo setting I picked. So if I was looking to spend around $3000 - $4000 just for the diamond. What requirements should I be going for?

Requirements: A certificate from GIA or AGS ; a plot of inclusions ; an examination by a gemologist to determine if it's eye clean.

An an ASET/IS to evaluate light performance. Dimensions of the stone including angles at a minimum.
