Hello,

I’ve been shopping for a ring and I’m debating between these 2. The second one is 15% more expensive and I’m wondering which one would you go for?

Both are round, GIA certified, Excellent Cut/Symmetry & Polish.

Diamond A

Measurement : 6.47- 6.50 * 4.04 mm
Color : E
Clarity : VS2
Depth : 62.2%
Table : 56%
Crown Angle : 35
Crown Height : 15.5%
Pavillion Angle : 43.5
Girdle : Medium to Slightly Thick, Faceted, 3.5%
Culet : None
Fluorescence : Medium Blue

Diamond B

Measurement : 6.44- 6.47 * 4.05 mm
Color : F
Claritiy : VVS2
Depth : 62.7%
Table : 57%
Crown Angle : 35
Crown Height : 15%
Pavillon Angle : 41.2
Girdle : Medium to Slightly Thick, Faceted, 4.0%
Culet : None
Fluorescence : None

I’m also wondering if I should go with claws in platinum or 18k Carat Gold? The platinum are $500 more.

Thanks a lot.

John

I'd probably go for the first one, double check your pavilion angle, you posted the pavilion depth.

Re: Help me decide about these 2 diamonds? (E VS2 vs. F VVS2

Thank you!

Pavillon Angle of A 41 - of B : 41,2

Pavillon Depth of A 43.5% - of B : 43.5%

What about the claws material?

Thanks again!

Don't honestly love either, they're both kinda deep and I suspect are not getting the spread that should come with their carat weights.

Have you seen either stone in person? Or are there any photos/IdealScopes/Asets available?

I did run the HCA tool on both - https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca
Stone #1 received a 2.3 total score (Very Goods for Light Return, Fire, Scintillation, and Spread)
Stone #2 received a 3.7 total score (Very Goods for Light Return and Spread, and Goods for Fire and Scintillation)

The HCA tool is used for elimination - basically, any score below 2 (Excellent) eliminates known poor performers.

Between the two, Stone #1 is the better performer... but likely will not perform as well as a stone scoring under 2 on the HCA tool.

If you'd like to consider additional stones before you make your final decision, just post your budget and color/clarity preferences and we'll search within those parameters to find some more options for you.

Thank you so much!

I have their GIA report with me. I've seen them and I honestly didn't really see much difference. I thought they both looked good.

It's the first time I about this tool.

If I understand correctly, I should go with Diamond A because 2.3 is better than 3.7?

I also have one that scored 1.6, is it much better than the 2.3?

Thanks a lot for the offer but I'm a bit pressed by time. I need to take a decision in the next few days.

HCA scores plus most people prefer higher color rather than higher clarity is probably why most people prefer A over B.

A lower HCA score is not necessarily better. You should pick the one that looks best to your eyes. If you have no preference, then I would probably default to either the largest, the cheapest, or the one with better HCA score.

Re: Help me decide about these 2 diamonds? (E VS2 vs. F VVS2

Thank you! I will keep this in mind.

I was looking for a diamond above 1 carat Color E-F, Excellent Cut/Polish/Sym and clarity VS1 and above. Should I go below VS1 for clarity?

And is claws in platinum a must or can I go with 18k carat claws?

Hello again,

Diamond A is my current choice. I saw a few ones and have a new DIamond (C) contenter. Which one is better? It's the same carat but the second one is 15% more expensive.

On the HCA, the first one is 2.3 and the second one is 1.6. Is it a big difference?

Diamond A

Cut/Sym/Polish : All Excellent
Color : E
Clarity : VS2
Depth : 62.2%
Table : 56%
Crown Angle : 35
Crown Height : 15.5%
Pavillion Angle : 43.5
Girdle : Medium to Slightly Thick, Faceted, 3.5%
Culet : None
Fluorescence : Medium Blue

Diamond C

Cut/Sym/Polish :Excellent/Very Good/ Very Good
Color : F
Clarity : VVS2
Depth : 62.5%
Table : 56%
Crown Angle : 35
Crown Height : 16%
Pavillion Angle : 40.8
Girdle : Thin to Slightly Thick, Faceted, 3.5%
Culet : None
Fluorescence : Faint

Thank you!

Both HCA scores are good, so you should pick with your eyes.

Re: Help me decide about these 2 diamonds? (E VS2 vs. F VVS2

Based on paper, and despite the HCA scores, I prefer Diamond A over Diamond C - Diamond A has Excellent for Symmetry and Polish while Diamond C only has Very Good for Symmetry and Polish.

But I do agree with the poster above - if you are able to examine them in person, in different lighting - and not just the bright jewelry store lights but also hold them down below the counter away from overhead lighting, and see if you can take them outside or near a window for daylight viewing) - go with your eyes and choose the one you prefer.

Very important to post the diameter measurements. C looks good except it is deeper than I normally consider. I prefer 62.0 or less or a max of 62.3, so I'd want to see the diameter measurements.

Re: Help me decide about these 2 diamonds? (E VS2 vs. F VVS2

Hello,

Thanks for all your help. I didn't know choosing a diamond was so complex.

Diamond A Measurement is 6.47- 6.50 * 4.04 mm

C : 6.39 - 6.51 x 4.03 mm.

Re: Help me decide about these 2 diamonds? (E VS2 vs. F VVS2

C is out of round. Sometimes this is not visible to the naked eye, but GIA did give it a VG grade for symmetry.
