Hi all,

I am planning a visit to the states to pick-up a diamond and I will be proposing there in about 1 month. I have been lurking on here for the past 6 months and have narrowed down my search. Would really appreciate your expert advice on my decision.

Here is my criteria:

Cut is most important (want it to sparkle like crazy)
H in Color
Eye Clean (VS2 or better)

and also:

HCA cut below 2
Great idealscope images*

*Now, what I have found the most difficult is that many dealers don't offer idealscope images. And those that do charge a more (ie. I would have to settle for a smaller diamond). Of course, the best deal I've found has a great HCA score but no idealscope images.

Prospect 1: Larger diamond, great HCA (0.9), no idealscope, great value (image 1), VS1.
Prospect 2: Smaller diamond, great HCA (0.8), medium value (image 2), VS1.
Prospect 3: Medium size diamond, great HCA, worst value (image 3), VS2.

All these diamonds have excellent symmetry and no florescent and no cutlet.

Also, I am looking to put this in a rose gold 14k setting like the one attached (image 4).

My questions for you all are:

1) I would like to buy prospect 1, but there are no idealscope images. Would this be a game breaker for you guys?
2) Are there any other factors that I should consider that I may have forgotten?
3) Between prospect 2 and 3,which would you recommend?
4) What is a reasonable amount to pay for the setting in image 4? I have found that this varies greatly among vendors. Ideally I'd like to spend my money on the diamond and not the setting.

Thanks for everyone's help. I have spent a lot of time researching and using this forum to see what others have looked for. Big thanks to the Pricescope crew for all this useful info. I will be sure to post pictures once I am done. Wish me luck!:)

Can you give us an idea of the budget and the sizes of these diamonds? Are they all GIA certified? Could you give us more stats? The companies which provide extra images usually also have excellent customer service and good upgrade policies so I woudn't necessarily discount them. For me, I would not buy without more information.

Re: Help me choose the right diamond! Images and 1 week away

All 3 diamonds are GIA excellent or AGS ideal. All 3 vendors have great return policies and allow for an upgrade and have a good standing on this website. I've heard of people posting here and other people stealing the diamond, so I don't want to provide direct links to the sites if possible.

But here are some more details:

1) Depth 61.5, Table 57,Crown 35, Pavillion angle 40.6, EYE clean
2) Depth 61.3, Table 57, Crown 33, Pavillion angle 41, EYE clean
3) Depth 61.9, Table 55.7, Crown 34.8, Pavillion 40.8, Eye clean

Re: Help me choose the right diamond! Images and 1 week away

Which one was AGS000?

Re: Help me choose the right diamond! Images and 1 week away

The last one is AGS the others are GIA.

Re: Help me choose the right diamond! Images and 1 week away

#3 hands down.

You said you want sparkle. Small table, ideal crown angle, AGS0.

Re: Help me choose the right diamond! Images and 1 week away

The AGS000 would be the safe route...how much size difference are we talking?

Re: Help me choose the right diamond! Images and 1 week away

The first one is about .15 carat larger for the same price as 3.

Re: Help me choose the right diamond! Images and 1 week away

Was wondering why you guys didn't like 1 or 2? Is there anything there that would cause a red flag?

Re: Help me choose the right diamond! Images and 1 week away

I was thinking the idealscope on #2 actually looked pretty good! Would you stay away from #1 only because it didn't have an idealscope?

Re: Help me choose the right diamond! Images and 1 week away

It's fairly good but will have a messy hearts and arrows picture. It will be bright, but the crown is 33. If you want maximum fire and sparkle, the AGS stone appears much more suited with the smaller table and higher crown (both maximise fire), as well as appearing more symmetrical.

Re: Help me choose the right diamond! Images and 1 week away

#1.. no IS image
#2.. although the IS looks good, the crown is a bit low, and the table is larger than #3. The crown facets bend and disperse light to produce fire and sparkle. The IS shows light return and contrast, but nothing about dispersion. You need to look at the numbers. Plus, there is a sign of painting
#3 winner.. small table, good contrast, good crown angle for dispersion=fire and sparkle.

#1 can be a good choice if you know how to assess a diamond.

Re: Help me choose the right diamond! Images and 1 week away

#3 all the way!... a much safer bet by the #s and the ID scope pic look great.

Re: Help me choose the right diamond! Images and 1 week away

Okay thanks guys. I just put #3 on reserve. Will show you all how it looks once I receive it! Thanks all for your help!

Re: Help me choose the right diamond! Images and 1 week away

Hello Everyone,

I also need experts here to provide me advise. I am looking for the most sparkling and fire diamond. I have narrowed to the following three. I need to decide by tomorrow. Could you please help me to choose one?

Choice A: 1.24, H, VS2 Polish EX, Symmetry EX, Fluorescence: Faint, Depth: 60.9, Table 56, Crown 34.5, Pavilion 40.8, Culet None, GIA, HCA 1.2 ExExExVG

Choice B: 1.27, G, VS2 Polish EX, Symmetry EX, Fluorescence: None, Depth: 59.8, Table 58, Crown 33.5, Pavilion 40.8, Culet None, Girdle Thin – Medium, GIA, HCA 0.9 ExExExEx

Choice C: 1.29, H, VS1, Light Perf. 0, Polish 0, Symmetry 0, Fluorescence: None, Depth: 61.6, Table 56.1, Crown 34.7, Pavilion 40.6, Culet Pointed, Girdle Thin – Medium, AGS, HCA 0.8 ExExExVG

I have Hearts & Arrows and IdealScope images for all these three diamonds. But I do not know how to post them here.

Thank you very much in advance for your time and help!

John

Congratulations ottawapeach. #1 looks good too but #3 is a guaranteed performer.

Welcome NewComer99, here usually we discuss 1 persons questions per thread as it gets confusing otherwise. I can see you've already started your own.

1 looks fine but would like an idealscope image...Dont like the low crown on number 2 even though idealscope looks fine.

Hi John,
Would be happy to advise but you need to start your own thread. Gets too messy trying to advise 2 people on same thread.
I'll look for a new thread from you.
