Hi guys! I am planning to propose to my long time girlfriend so I am looking for diamonds within a reasonable budget. So now, I am choosing between 2 that I found.

1st Option:
Cushion
1.00 carat
K
SI1
GIA REPORT 5101712173
$2500

2nd Option:
Princess
1.01
I
VS1
GIA REPORT 13671855
$3900

At the moment, I am leaning towards the first option since for me, I could not see any visible intrusions and the color is not that important as well. I think that you will only notice the color when you put the diamonds side by side. The cost is quite big between the two I was wondering if you guys were in my shoes, which would you pick taking into account value for the price.

well do you know what shape she prefers, cushion or princess?

No idea really. But it seems that the brilliance between the two is close. I was also looking at an square emerald cut but the brilliance was not that good.

can you maybe try to find out? they are very different looks, some women have a strong preference. also if you are after brilliance, why not a round?

Round is way way more expensive so that is not an option for me at this stage. As for finding her preference, hmm might be hard since it is a surprise and if I ask then it would give the whole thing away. Anyway, what I am going for is to give something that is a little bit more than presentable and since I don't really know much about diamonds, I want to give something that is normally accepted by the majority to be safe.

ok. round is more expensive for the same carat weight, but will actually look larger! so you can go with a smaller round to achieve the same look. personally, accepted to be safe, I would stick with round or princess-those are the two most popular.

as far as the princess cut you posted...definitely a no-go. the depth is 80%, causing it to look smaller than a well-cut 1 carat princess.

are you open to looking online? we can definitely find you some options to compare!

Is it safe to buy online for jewelry? I live in the Philippines so that might cause some problems. But if you can recommend some good merchants then I can have a look and see from there. Thanks very much for your insights. These are really helpful since all the stuff I know about diamonds I just google at this point. Talking to someone about actual diamonds is easier.

The cushion you chose is classified as "faint brown". Not sure that is what your future wife would want....

How about either of these? The round faces up larger than the princess you posted above, and is from a reputable dealer with no tax.

both of these stones have a lifetime guarantee from GOG which means you can trade up anytime for any stone that costs the same or more. Great policy!

Nice. This is the feedback that I was looking for. As for your suggestions, these do look nice and much more value. I'll have to study shipping and the risk involved first thoroughly. Thanks very much! :D
