How about this ring from LOGR

I had this ring, only in yellow gold, the diamonds were sparkly and not dark at all, however, it didn''t even fill the top of my fingers, and I"m a size just under 4, but I''m sure they can extend it out if you requested the diamonds 3/4. it was very pretty though.

Do you guys think this Bluenile ring would be a good choice to buy as a 'place-holder' until he can find one he likes better?? It's the only one that he can for sure have by Saturday and has a 30 day return policy. I think it's pretty. There aren't any stats for the diamonds that I see besides color and clarity.

I like it. But for an additional 200 I'd go for the Dimend Scaasi Band Ebree linked to. G VS and it never hurts to ask for a PS discount. Sharon is the lady who works there who posts here.

Gorgeous! My husband has bought me several jewlery gifts from Blue Nile, and they were all gorgeous - beautiful diamonds, great worksmanship & quality. I really like that ring.

Not sure how much your bother wants to spend but maybe have him check out Costco. Dh got mine from there. I get many compliments with this ring. It ring is all white gold, I color, VS clarity. I can't remember the carat weight, it might be .50 tcw.
