Hi all I just got engaged to the man of my dreams who sank to his knees and surprised me with a beautiful ring.

I said yes!

The ring is a 1.5 ct solitaire e vvs2 ideal cut but has strong blue fluroscence. We had it valued in Australia as he bought it on line. He says the valuation was good butI've not seen it nor the gia cert valuation!

I know it was expensive.

The hca is 1.3 all exec except for Scintillation which is very good.

At times in the sun it glows and looks so so bright. Do you think that the Fluor has reduced transparency?

I am wondering why the ring is so bright. Is it lack of contrast, I can't really see the h and a pattern because of the four prong setting or is it the stone?

Did we get ripped off?

hard to say without pictures. do YOU think it has? If you are concerned about the fluor or that he spent too much if you are in the return period then just return it and start fresh... however, just by your description im not certain your stone has a problem, but maybe I need pictures of exactly what you mean.

If the strong blue is having any negative affect on the stone then it will appear mily or oily. In direct sunlight, under a black light or tanning bed, the stone should turn a bluish color. Check out this Brian Gavin Blue....the blue stone is how fluorescence looks under UV lighting. http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.027-h-vs2-round-diamond-ags-bl-104061006007

About a third of all stones exhibit fluorescence and of those only another third (i think) will be negatively affected, but the risk seems to increase in higher color grades. An appraiser should have been able to determine if the stone was milky so I'm betting that everything is fine. The stone is likely really bright because it is well cut, and it's very difficult to see the arrows IRL, they will appear more silvery when you do see them. Give your appraiser a call and talk to him about your concerns, since he has already evaluated the diamond, he will be best able to put your mind at ease.

It sounds like a beautiful diamond. :)

You have a gorgeous stone! I have on with strong blue and I absolutely love it in the sunlight! I believe they should cost more than stones without it, but lucky for fluoro lovers, they usually sell at a discount! Order a cheap UV penlight online and go into a dark room and shine the light on the stone and you can see it really glow!

Congratulations on your ring and baby!!!

I have a ring that has a diamond with strong blue fluo and it's really nice. I had no idea it had any fluo but one day for grins I took all my jewelry into the closet with a black light.

I think if your diamond was negatively affected you would know. Sometimes there's a "mental" thing with a particular piece of jewelry so if you think it's going to bug you, return it while you can. If you can decide it's an awesome "bonus", keep it.

Not all diamonds with cut grade of excellent have hearts and arrows patterning. You should be able to see the arrows (using just your eyes) as long white slivers with arrowheads, or as arrows throwing off fire. They rarely appear as black lines, if that's what you are looking for. Black or dark arrows happen because the arrows are reflecting something dark, like the body of the camera. Hearts can only be seen if the stone is unmounted and placed upside down, and hearts and arrows viewer is sued.

The arrows are silver!! Do you think the glow is the fluro or the e?

The "glow" outside is probably both - I have a D H&A rb w/ SBF and outside on a sunny day it looks blue, some of which is the fluor and some of which is the reflection of the sky.

My D was sold to me as a stone with "no negative effects" from the fluor, but I swear in direct sunlight it does haze up a bit. BUT... it doesn't bother me because it is a beautiful stone in every other respect, so I just don't dwell on it.

I think the most important thing here is your opinion of it...

If you *like* the effect it has then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, right?

That said, if it DOES bother you and you are not "mind clean" with this stone, then you have some decisions to make. It sounds like a beautiful stone, it scored well on the HCA (do you have an ASET or Idealscope image for it?), and even stones that aren't "perfect" need a loving home.
