Hi Everyone,

I received a price-list for 0.20cts diamonds, all GIA Certified and 3EX.
I find it a bit hard to understand, why for example, the first diamond on the list that is a color D, VVS1, is less expensive that the other 3 diamonds there on the list? when some of them are lower E color and VVS2.

I would like to understand the logic behind this pricing, as normally I would expect the D, VVS1 to be the most expensive stone out of the 4, and not the opposite!?

Many thanks in advance for any professional help you can provide me, on pricing these stones.
Please see attached file.

Grading is not the only variable that leads to pricing on diamonds.

Every dealer sets the prices as they wish and it includes things like inventory levels, popularity of particular stones and so on. Even from the same dealer, the stones you see are almost certainly 'virtual' inventory owned by a separate supplier. They may all be coming from the same place but probably not. That supplier is who set the price. In terms of high grades, it's tricky. D/IF is popular because it's the 'best' but the other high grades can be hard to sell. D/VVS1 is especially tough because it's almost the best but not quite. The customers who are looking for D/IF won't touch it and a fair fraction of the others would be just as happy with a G/VS2 for less money.
