I live in a small town on the IN/IL border. For my upcoming 20th anniversary(I was a child bride
)my hubby is going to buy me a larger E ring diamond. We have one mall and a couple of B/M shops to shop at for diamonds. I''ve read just about all the tutorial diamond info on the net for the past month. From my reading I understand that for max fire & brilliance, I should go for cut first and color & clarity second. I have 2 questions: I am going to look at ovals, radiants and rounds in that order. Very good cuts, 1.25 - 1.5 ct weight, G-H color Vs2-Si1 clarity. Which of these shapes would give the maximum fire & brilliance?
Also, I am planning to stay away from the chain stores in the mall and instead go to a couple of local jewelers who have excellent reps and carry loose stones as well as doing the setting work. Should I bother with traveling to a bigger city to shop such as Chicago or Indy to save money? What is the general price range for ovals(my first choice) with these specs. I am not adverse to shopping on the net, but my DH likes to have a "place" to go back to if there are any problems. Thanks for your help.
