In celebration of our 20th wedding anniversary we are replacing my wife''s engagement ring. She has found a setting that she is in love with and so now we''ve embarked on the process of finding the right center stone. I feel very much like I''m looking for the ever elusive needle in a haystack. We are looking for a pear shape, in the 1 to 1.5 carat range. We aren''t necessarily looking for a pure "white" stone, in fact a bit a yellow hue might be nice. I found this site and after lurking for a bit decided to take the plunge and impose on your time (the community here seems really nice).

Here is my first possible contender (hopefully posting this link is OK, I couldn''t figure out how to just get the ASET and photo) - Diamond Specs.

TIA for any and all help.

It''s not just that there isn''t a lot of red in the ASET, it''s that almost all of the red is in a stripe across the middle. I think a better option is to have less green overall and red that is more well dispersed through the ASET, but I don''t have much insight into pears. As for the marquise I''ve seen with that red stripe, the diamond was not so impressive in real life and had a bit of a bow-tie.

Hi TheWeaver and welcome!

It looks like a nice pear, these shapes aren't normally cut to show the best light return so it can be a challenge to find a well cut diamond, this pear isn't a badly cut stone by any means but it depends on what you want. If you want a pear which has the best possible light return then keep looking and be prepared it could take a while, or put this one on your list of possibles and keep looking, then compare it once you have looked around some more as it sounds as if you have just begun to look?

Also check whether this diamond shows much in the way of a bow tie and as it is an I colour, ask whether much warmth is concentrated in the tip of the pear, I can notice this with my GIA graded H colour pear so its best to check, it doesn't bother me but it is something to be aware of.

I think it is a very nice pear also. Love the shape.

Thanks all. I''ve put that one in the possible category and continue to look. I will doubtless be back for more advice in a day or so ;).
