Hi everyone! Could you guys help me identify the cut on this diamond? I have it on hold with JA (https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...arat-k-color-vs2-clarity-good-cut-sku-3262786), but I really can't tell if it's a RB or possibly transitional. I love the chunky arrows on this stone, and JA should be emailing me an IS hopefully soon. They could not get me an ASET, unfortunately.

It's labeled as a round brilliant on the GIA certificate, cut grade "good," table 62%, depth 63%, no culet. The table and depth %ages are weird, but I know they're not everything with old cuts.

This could also literally be a "good" cut round brilliant too, I'm more of an old cut gal, so don't know a whole lot about modern RBs.

Here are some screen shots that I took to try to capture the faceting:

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated, thank you!

Ok so the first thing I'll say is l, it is what it is. If it was cut 79 years ago or 2 years ago. It looks like that, so you should base it off of liking what it is, not what cut you would call it.

Looks to be a poorly cut mrb.

Why are you not looking at loveaffair diamonds, Grace or Adam? That would assure that you get what you're looking for.

For the size stone at James Allen (wich is marked sold) you could have a "real" transitional or OEC. That one flyingpig posted is amazing, if you are in budget for one four times as big as the one you were asking about. :lickout:

Mostly for budget reasons. Looking to spend no more than $900 for a 5.4mm stone. I've looked at LAD, JGB, and OWD sites and they don't have anything within my budget right now. I'll probably contact Adam to see if he has anything not listed on his website if I don't make any progress on my own. I haven't found great options on eBay.

@Niel you're right, it is what it is. I was asking for educational reasons and to be an informed consumer. As I said before I'm a novice when it comes to RB cuts. I'd also like to know if the price is right if this is in fact a poorly cut MRB.

Thanks!

It is! My damn money tree won't grow! My challenge is finding one I really like for my actual budget. Oh, life.

That stone doesn't look to be a very good performer. What's your budget. What are you trying to accomplish? A ring? A pendant?

@Niel Budget less than $900 for an antique ring, pic below

@alene I was only looking at MDZ on eBay but I'll peruse their Etsy page tonight. Thank you!

If you're open to lower colors, I got a .54 U-V VS1 OEC from Adam at OWD for under $800. (Maybe $750ish?) I was actually almost disappointed because I set it in my old WF white gold martini pendant and the tint is really not that obvious at all now! Just an idea... Good luck with your search.:)

Oh ok to fit that setting?
