So I need a setting and a diamond!

I am new and have read for a few days tutorials and posts here at Pricescope. Please help me by suggesting what and where to buy. I would like to see vendors who provide Idealscope images. I think I am looking for this:

Shape: Round
Color: D,E,F
Clarity: IF, VVS1, VVS2, VS1
Cut: I don´t know, but suggest something good please
Carat: Between 1.5 and 2.0
Budget: around $20,000

I am flexible about these specs, including the money, I don´t know if I am suggesting the right thing. Please feel free to make suggestions.

Regarding the setting I like the simple platinum four prong. In James Allen I saw a couple a liked, one is "Presentation Solitaire (four prong)" and another called "2mm Comfort Fit Solitaire". Would the comfort be very wide and diminish the impact of the diamonds size?

The ring will ship to Texas so it would be good to have it shipped from another state to avoid taxes.

Let's find the right stone and then find the setting. Everyone sells 4 prong solitaires! Not sure your budget and specs are going to work out, but I will look!

I am going to encourage you to consider G color as well, because it is going to be hard to find some of the high color clarity combinations within budget. These are the best top cut stones I can find with images and that are not located in TX.

You should expand to VS2, eyeclean, and G color.

You won't be able to tell it apart from an F IF diamond with your naked eyes (or even with glasses).

@Diamondseeker2006 The options you sent look great! Any comments on the companies that can help me decide with whom to deal? What does your comment regarding the last stone mean?

@Gypsy Yes, thank you for the suggestion, I am open to those specs and maybe I could get something closer to 2.0 carat.

I like Good Old Gold and Victor Canera because they are both vendors who carry fine quality diamonds and GOG sells many fine brands of settings and Victor makes magnificent custom settings. I have bought from both and I highly recommend them. The JA stone is very nice, but I prefer a 1.5 ct stone to have a diameter of close to 7.4mm+. As you can see, the VC stone is closer to that number. GOG and VC also have better upgrade policies for their diamonds in case you ever wanted to upgrade the stone. I know that is about the last thing on most guys mind at this point, but it is a good thing to know! (I also love WhiteFlash, but sadly they are in your state which was excluded.)

I happen to personally like VS1 and my diamond is VS1. However, I am in agreement that VS1 is so extremely clean that I am not willing to pay for higher clarity than that in most cases. There will definitely be more options should you decide to go to VS2. Most VS2 stones are eyeclean, but some are going to be better than others.

Ask for picture and idealscope:

You have a number of nice options.

Read this to help you:
Here is what you need to know:
The entire purpose of faceting a diamond is to reflect light.
How well or how poorly a diamond does this determines how beautiful it is.
How well a diamond performs is determined by the angles and cutting. This is why we say cut is king.
No other factor: not color, not clarity has as much of an impact on the appearance of a diamond as its cut. An ideal H will out white a poorly cut F. And GIA Ex is not enough. And you must stick to GIA and AGS only. EGL is a bad option: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/egl-certification-are-any-of-them-ok.142863/ and
So how to we ensure that we have the right angles and cutting to get the light performance we want? Well first you want to stick to stones that have a crown angle of 34 (33.5 okay for 60/60 style stones) and over, a pavilion angle of 41 and under, and no deeper than 62.5
https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/diamond-cut
Well one method is to start with a GIA Ex, and then apply the HCA to it. YOU DO NOT USE HCA for AGS0 stones.
https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/holloway-cut-advisor
The HCA is a rejection tool. Not a selection tool. It uses 4 data points to make a rudimentary call on how the diamond may perform.
If the diamond passes then you know that you are in the right zone in terms of angles for light performance. Under 2 is a pass. Under 2.5-2.1 is a maybe. 2.6 and over is a no. No score 2 and under is better than any other.
Is that enough? Not really.
So what you need is a way to check actual light performance of your actual stone.
That's what an idealscope image does. https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/firescope-idealscope
It shows you how and wear your diamond is reflecting light, how well it is going at it, and where you are losing light return. That is why you won't see us recommending Blue Nile, as they do not provide idealscope images for their diamonds. BGD, James Allen, GOG, HPD, ERD and WF do.

The Idealscope is the 'selection tool'. Not the HCA.
So yes, with a GIA stone you need the idealscope images. Or you can buy an idealscope yourself and take it in to the jeweler you are working with to check the stones yourself. Or if you have a good return policy (full refund minimum 7 days) then you can buy the idealscope, buy the stone, and do it at home.

Now if you want to skip all that... stick to AGS0 stones and then all you have to do is pick color and clarity and you know you have a great performing diamond. Because AGS has already done the checking for you. That's why they trade at a premium.
