Hello- I received a round 1.5/ H/ SI2 diamond from Blue Nile, and in many lights it is looking gray/ blue- and it had no flourescnece..... I don''t know if it is me being really critical, or if it really is there.... the clarity is based on clouds not shown- Any advice would be great.

can you link the original BN link to the stone so that we can see the report?

Hi brown and welcome!

There could be various reasons for this but from what you say it could be due to the SI2 clarity being based on clouds which are not shown would be my initial guess if the stone looks dull/ cloudy.

Can you post the report please? That would give more info. Also are you still within the return period?

Could be the lighting environment. Many diamonds go dark in sunlight. Do other diamonds also look blue gray to you? Have you compared it to other diamonds in the same lighting?

Dreamer- OMG- TOTALLY. That is exactly what it looks like....:-( Not all the time...but occasionally...

Yes,I am still able to return.

I have looked at it in all types of light- even in a jewelery store...

I am not sure how to post the report- here is the link to the GIA- http://www.bluenile.com/round-diamond-1-carat-ideal-cut-h-color-si2-clarity_LD01570819

That could be the clouds if it looks similar to the stone in the photo Dreamer posted, this one was cloudy due to grade setting clouds we were told.

You have two possibilities here, return the diamond immediately or get an independant appraiser to look at it while you are within the return period.

I will just link the report to take a look for you,

It is a decently cut stone, however it does say the clarity grade is based on clouds which are not shown and as you are also unhappy with the diamond, it is up to you of course, but I would be inclined to return it, or if you aren't sure definitely get an appraiser to view it ASAP.

Here is the appraiser tool for you here.

Thanks Loreli... I only have about 5 days left. So I m trying to figure out what to do... I found another one, but it has a knot on it- and they said it was not a good choice. I am debating to go down to a VS J to stay in budget... Thoughts?

You are welcome!

Did BN say this one wasn''t a good choice? Because of the knot? Do you have a link for this diamond you could post please?

Also you could definitely go to I or J colour if you wished, or keep looking with SI1 or SI2 that don''t have grade making clouds, some don''t and are eyeclean. Do you prefer to stick to BN only or are you open to other vendors too?

Diamonds can be tinted in colors other than yellow and brown. There are a few which actually have a very slight gray body color and still are graded using the yellow-brown D-Z color grade scale since they are not common and not really fancy color either. No matter what, if the appearance bothers you it is the right time to take immediate action to replace it with a different diamond. Even it is makes no dollar difference, it is wrong to keep a diamond which you are worried about or don''t truly like a whole lot. There are so many others to select from and during the free approval period is the very best time to make a change.

Thanks so much for all the help! BlueNile has been great so far...we will see how this turns out- I am returning it for sure.

Here is the other one I have looked at.... http://www.bluenile.com/round-diamond-1-carat-ideal-cut-i-color-si1-clarity_LD01639752

They said it was ok.... not as bad b/c the knot was in the table. The HCA looks good on it... I don''t mind seeing a teeny tiny spec but I do mind seeing a cloudy gray diamond. I also would not want to purchase it if the knot compromised the integrity of the diamond.

Knots can apparently be a durability issue in some circumstances but this isn''t the norm as far as I am aware, however a trusted expert would need to inspect the stone such as an appraiser to be sure. If you couldn''t find anything else suitable, you could get this one appraised during the return period if they said it was eyeclean to your standards.

Do you have any others in mind?
