One of my friends is planning to propose in September and has come to me for help with a ring. He is interested in an Emerald Cut of about 1 carat or slightly larger. I am embarrased to admit I don''t know a thing about Emerald cuts, what to look for, how they price out, etc.
Do emerald cuts show inclusions and color more than a round brilliant? So is it beneficial to stay higher in color and clarity?
I feel like such a novice

If anyone could be so kind as to post a few links to diamonds that might be good starting point, I would really appreciate it. Just so I can see some ideal dimensions, table, etc.

Thanks so much you wonderful pricescopers!!

Yes, step cuts can show inclusions more easily than a round diamond due to the faceting and also in some cases they can show more colour. So I would look at GIA graded VS clarity or above and maybe D - H colour initially.

Images are essential to properly judge EC's such as ASET and photographs, so I would stick to vendors who can provide these and have in house diamonds or can source some well cut EC's.

Also here is a chart you can use as a guide but don't get overly reliant on the numbers if you find a stone you like.

He isn''t exactly sure yet, as he just started shopping, but ballpark was $5000.

So would stats similar to this be a good place to start?

With this one the table size is greater than the depth which is undesirable, what I would do is keep looking and also hold out for storm to come along and advise and maybe he could offer some selections, EC's are tricky so someone who really knows what he is doing like storm would be a big help to you. Also that diamond is a virtual stone and would need to be called in for evaluation.

Here are a few suggestions of ones I like the look of for storm to critique which might be suitable for you, as I say these shapes are tricky and don't look " perfect" to me but might have some potential.
