Hi gang, I have a friend who is planning on getting engaged with a E/W set marquis ... I don''t know too much about them so am unable to really help her, but one Q she asked me was about body color..aka would she see much difference between an H and an I. Well with a round I would say no but with a marquis I am not sure...since it seems they do hold a little bit more body color than a RB.

Anyone with marquis have thoughts on how they show body color? Experts?

Also I would assume that if she wants an E/W setting that the marquis would have a longer look than a fatter look right?

Any marquis help that I can pass onto her is appreciated!!

In another life, I had a marquise shaped diamond, and it was an H. I''m pretty color sensitive, but I couldn''t see any color in this diamond. I haven''t seen an I colored marquise yet, so I can''t tell you if they start to show color, but your friend should feel safe going with a (properly graded) H. I don''t know what to tell you about the fatter or longer look, that''s usually a personal preference.

I haven''t seen an H and an I marquise side by side, but since mq and pears show more color in the tips, she should definitely see one in person if at all possible in the color range she''s thinking of. With an H I''d say she should be okay, but I don''t know about an I. Maybe Jazmine will pipe up since she recently got her e/w set marquise, but her stone is a D so...dunno if she''s looked at lower color stones.

Regarding fat vs skinny, what is your friend''s finger size? Depending on that she shouldn''t go *too* long n skinny, or she''ll be pokin the other fingers. Slightly fatter would be nicer, IMO.

not sure what size finger but i estimate a 5 or so, she''s kind of smaller...also the ones she is looking at have dimensions that are kind of similar to 10.5x5.8, thoughts?

lastly, she wants a solitaire set E/W but with cathedral arms reaching up from the shank to hold the diamond in (seems like maybe split claw prongs could be really pretty with that, aka holding the diamond in), no halo or any diamonds on it, other than the cathedral arms and E/W just a basic platinum shank, thinnish side aka 2-2.5mm I figure. anyone seen something similar for a setting? i told her i''d check it out...but that she may want to consider custom as well!

thanks for help!

Unfortunately the closest I've seen are bezels like this by Etienne Perret

or from another thread, Ana posted rings by Barbara Heinrich and Henrich & Denzel

I think the closest thing I've seen is something like Jazmine's but hers is blinged out of course.

I haven't seen any prong set e/w mq rings w/o halos...I think. It might require some photoshopping (which I'm crappy at) of the DCD/James Allen e/w mq halo ring.

ETA: With a l to w ratio of 1.8 (based on the numbers you posted) it's within trade preference and skewed towards the fatter side and would look very nice I think. That size seems okay for a size 5 finger...as much as I can guess going off my size 7.5 finger!

I recently saw a woman buying a 1.8 carat J marquise, and I could definitely see some body color. So, if it were me, I''d know not to go that low...

Doesn''t woobug have an I/J MQ? I would PM her for her opinion.

I am very color sensitive with a "D" diamond so I may not be the best person to ask, but I would not want to go below an "H." Actually, for myself, not even below colorless. They do show more color IMO. How big will it be? Anything of any size, 1.5 carat and up, I think I wouldn't go below a "G."

Also, I like fatter marquise set E/W. My E/W marquise is actually right in the middle (2 to 1) in terms of length to width, but think fat ones do look very good this way.
