Hi Guys,

I need some help in finding what I''m looking for -

round, hearts and arrows 1-1.1ct, eye clear

Does anyone know of any rebutable dealers I can purchase this from online that are resonable? I don''t need a fancy appraisal by GIA that inflates the price.

I live in Toronto if anyone knows anyone resonable local.

Thanks,
Henry

Henry....take my advise, only buy AGS or GIA graded stones.

how do you define reasonable?

good luck finding a H&A brand that doesn''t send their diamonds to GIA/AGS. There''s a reason they do this.

thnks for the comments. Do you suggest i just go for an excellent ideal cut insteal of h&a?

I just wanted something that was very sparkly and understand the h&a does that?

you can get an excellent performer that is not H&A - H&A carries a premium for that perfect optical symmetry (not necessary for top of the line performance)...however if budget is less of a concern buying a branded H&A is an easy, foolproof way to get a lovely stone

Would stick to GIA exs and vgs and AGS 0s/1s. If you're comfortable buying online, you can post your budget and the experts can help you find some lovely stones

Well if you want a nice sparkly cut but don''t want to pay for a fancy GIA appraisal you can always go to Tiffany, who I believe does their own certification and seems to provide reliably sparkly diamonds. You could also try some other branded, well cut diamond, though you''ll have to get it appraised and make sure you have a right of return. You will end up paying much more than you would for an H&A that is GIA or AGS verified from some of the vendors here and not likely get something that looks noticeably better.

If you''re noticing that something G VS2 without a report is priced lower than ones with, then you need to realize that in many cases, the diamond is not truly a G VS2. It could be a J I1. Even with reports you still need to get them appraised, but you are safer with AGS or GIA and they have proven to be consistent, hence the ''premium.''

If you drop some of your specs a bit your price will go way down, too. Those are just ideas. You didn''t state your budget but you can find an eye clean si1 or si2, or stay in that range and probably go to a J color depending on how color sensitive you are (or both).

Like this:

and will work with most vendors here because things are priced fairly and accurately.

What you really need to do is establish a budget then work out all of your preferred C''s.

I''m not too keen on just using a GIA excellent or (especially) a very good because they allow for a significant range in light performance. If you just want to use certificates only and don''t want to do the research and digging, then it will be a gamble, ultimately.

Thanks for the advise thus far. My budget is $5,000

Out of curosity, how is EGL''s grading reputation?
