Help find a nice sapphire & diamond Princess D inspired Ring

Hi all,
totally fascinated by colored stones recently so i thought i'd get some thoughts from the experts here.

I got my mom a cute little pear of sapphire earrings for her birthday last year.
I probably way overspent since i didn't know much about colored stones.
it was from Costco and it turned out looking much smaller than i thought they were but they were still very beautiful.

after seeing Junebug17's lovely sapphire and diamond cluster ring, i have the urge to get something similar for my mom.
along the same colors as the pair of earrings i got her, a nice medium to deep blue color

i'm not looking to spend as much as junebug has spent ($3000~$4000), my budget is ideally under $2000 or around $2000 if it's a nice bigger sapphire.

The ring will be worn on a size 5 finger.

The ones on DBL are all over my budget and not quite as nice as junebug's (sorry junebug, i keep bringing up ur name, i just ur ring sooo much and i think a 12 diamond halo is the perfect number)

here's a nice sized sapphire i found on mastercut but there's a big bubble in the stone...not sure how i feel about that...

The mastercut sapphire is quite nice and definitely big. I don't think the bubbles will impact the stone much but ask if it's eye-clean and from how far away. The bubble is transparent so it shouldn't be too noticeable. Note that it is a colour shifter from 'strong purple to strong blue', as the description says. So in some lighting it'll be purple, in others blue.

The Etsy sapphire looks murky, possibly clarity challenged, and zoned. No mention of treatment in the listing. Stick to reputable dealers. For a 2K sapphire I'd only go with dealers who will offer lab reports from well known labs to know I'm getting what I'm paying for.

Your total budget is $2k? Or for just the stone?

Also, you could do much worse than Costco. They actually sell some pretty nice stuff, especially in the diamond side of things.

The tone is very dark on those and would likely be black in hand with some dark blue flashes. Colour is the main thing that sets price.

All those you selected are likely to look like a black coloured stone once set in a halo.

Oh well that's not good. What color scale should I stick to?
I'm not looking for something too vibrant in color, we actually like the more royal/navy blue colored sapphires.

Can someone make a few recommendations?

I think with your stated budget, most of the money will be going towards the setting rather than the sapphire. Is that okay with you? For an affordable yet nice looking sapphire, are you open to BE diffusion?

do sapphires usually photograph too light or too dark?
the one you posted looks a little too light for my likings.
i generally prefer a more subtle dark navy blue color vs a vibrant medium blue color, it looks too bright to me.
and if darker means cheaper, it's a win-win for me

in the picture below, i would prefer something darker than 3 closer to 4.

If you like #4, then that would make your budget doable. It's a very dark and inky colour, and not in high demand. It, however, does not jive with your descriptions.
Vibrant medium blue = picture #2
Subtle navy blue = picture #3

so the multicolor stone you found would be considered to be #2? and the Ebay ones i found would be more #4?
i think something along the lines of #3 or something between #3 and 4 would be good enough for me!

You mentioned in your thread that you wanted to set it in a princess diana setting. did you end up setting it in that?
if so, will you be selling the ring and setting together?
if i might miss your listing, but do remind me in this thread so i can go and check it out when you list it.

I can't say anymore about my stone since Ella stopped in to scold me (it wasn't either of those stones though, I never made a thread for the one I currently own). But no, I never ended up setting my sapphire.

This is the setting I was interested in and I think most of the PS vendors can order this (I had contacted BGD for a quote but I can't remember the price they provided me):

I like it. Colour shift isn't a bad thing of course. Also, the majority of the time it'll be the blue colour. Unless its under candlelight and incandescent light, not very common sources. It is darker than ideal but that is what you want after all. I doubt the bubble is a problem; or course there's no harm in asking to be sure.

What do you think of it?

Also note that it will darken in a halo. Others have more experience with setting and might chime in.

i think it's kinda cool! ya don't think the bubble is a huge deal visually. i mean it didn't pop when it got heat treated...
just not sure if bubbles are a common thing inside sapphires...this is the first one i've seen.

Sapphires aren't the only gems that can have bubbles. They're usually smaller from what I have seen but what do I know, lol.
Now its really interesting and cool to me when bubbles have some liquid in them.

Anyway, don't take my word for anything, I'm still a newbie and make mistakes.

Now that I understand you like dark blue sapphires, I think the Mastercut sapphire might be a potential candidate for you as long as you do not cover up the pavilion too much. The bubble should not pose an issue during the setting process if the bench is experienced with coloured stones.

For budget shopping as long as your expectations are in-line with the price paid, meaning do not expect these to be hefty sturdy settings.
I highly advise requesting him to upgrade the diamond melees too.
