Hello everyone,

I''d like to know get your expert feedback on this pear-shaped diamond''s ASET!

I know that Red is the best colour for an ASET to show, but with pears ( which I am very partial to), green isn''t bad.

The diamond pciture looks great -I try to get a bigger one than what I have but here are the specs - please let me know what you think!

Color: E
Clarity: VS2
Certificate: GIA
Depth: 66.4
Table: 62
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Good
Culet: None
Fluorescence: Medium blue
Measurements: 8.29*5.21*3.46

I am an expert by no means, but I''ll give you my thoughts based on what I have learned by just recently buying an oval.

The depth seems a tad deep and you may be sacrificing carat weight in the depth instead of in size, but I don''t think it''s overly deep.

The ASET looks good, I see no white spots of light leakage and lots of green.
From what I understand of ASET, (Green = 0º (horizon) to 45º), (Red = 45º to 75º), (Blue = 75º to 90º), (Black or White = indicates leakage). Sure red is the best because most direct lighting comes from overhead at 45-70, but fancy shapes just don''t have the perfect light reflection of a circle and can not reflect near as much light as a round.

There will be a bowtie in the red area, but it is hard to tell without seeing the stone as to how big it is. Many people dislike the bowtie, but I have no problems with it.

Someone else that IS an expert, please chime in and let us know what you think, as I would like to further my knowledge as well...

DMV, Thank you! I appreciate your input :) & I actually agree with most of it!

Hi Mrs Unrau

If you could post the actual photo too please, that would help. Can you also get the crown height from the vendor too?

The basic numbers are fine and so is the depth, depth doesn''t always relate to face up size or spread in fancy shapes as it does with rounds, as fancy shapes can hide weight in the pavilion or other areas. Out of interest, what is the girdle thickness too please?

The ASET is ok but it would be beneficial to have more red in the image. Although fancies can typically show more green than red, this image isn''t showing much red at all. It could be in reduced lighting the diamond wouldn''t light up much, it needs strong direct lighting to give it some punch and life. What I would do, is discuss the diamond with one of the gemologists to see what they advise, stressing that you are looking for a pear with life and sparkle. Also ask them if the diamond shows much of a bow tie, it isn''t really possible to evaluate this from a static image.
