Hello! :wavey: I haven't been on the boards forever, but I am in the market to purchase an emerald cut diamond and was wanting the expertise of you fine people! :) Which of these three would you choose and why? I know a little bit about emerald cut diamonds, such as the ideal depth and table percentage, but I don't know much more than that. If you could, please rate them 1 through 3...and please explain why. Thank you so much!! :D

Diamond #1 (1.52ct K SI1):

Diamond #2: (1.59ct K SI1)

Diamond #3: (1.70 K VS1)

I am looking for a diamond in the range of $4,000-$5,000 (approximately) and I love a little bit of warmth in step cuts! That's a bonus for me because it allows me to get a slightly larger stone in our price range. :naughty:

I have just started my search and I am open to any suggestions any of you may have or any other diamonds that would fall within my price range! Thanks in advance for your help in my search! :wavey:

I'm not an expert at all but the second one looks like it has a big window so I would forget that one. Did you ask for ASETS? If you find a different, third stone, I'd get ASETS for all three and compare. I wouldn't even bother with the second one of they three you link in your post.

Yes, I was about to hit "reply" to say the EXACT same 2 things that Lookinagain said. Great minds!

Oh, okay! See, I didn't even notice that. Thank you, both of you! ;-) I feel like this website gives a lot of information on the diamonds, such as the pavilion angles, etc. I don't know much about that though. Anyone have any input?

Not eye clean.

IGI = it isn't a true K SI1, as evidence by the greater warmth and more obvious inclusion on the table. Cut isn't good either.

Diamond #3: (1.70 K VS1)

IGI = not a true K VS1 but cut looks promising.

OK, I just noticed it only gives you the pavilion angle, etc., if you are on the full website, not the mobile version of the website. I actually had to click on full website and then search the SKU number of each diamond to see more information on them.

Thank you for your input Chrono!! I am leaning towards #3. No harm in ordering it and looking at it, I suppose. :)

I just saw a gorgeous M/IF emerald cut on Enchanted - with video and ASET provided.

Sorry, not liking the ASET nor picture. The P3 angles are way off.

It's a far sight better than what was posted before, including the fact that the price is half the IGI diamonds she was looking at..

The IS, ASET, and picture show a dead center; leaking light right down the middle. Not sure how that is "a far sight better". I would not get this EC at any price.

I agree with this, plus #1 also has a very flat crown, not attractive to me at all. #2 table too big, keep table at 65 or smaller. #3 I think color is lower than K and do not like the cut.

I would not look at lower than VS2 in an emerald cut, and some of those may not be completely eyeclean. Because two of these are not GIA stones, you may find yourself looking at smaller stones for that budget. Stick with GIA for accurate grading.

Okay, I looked and there were no K VS1-VS2's that I could recommend. So I went up to J, and this is the best one I see. Note the beautiful higher crown and the 63 table...see how much better it looks than the first three? Also excellent polish and symmetry..overall a better cut stone. The only negative is a very thick girdle which while good for protecting the girdle from chips, it may face up smaller than a stone with the same depth and thin girdle.

DiamondSeeker2006, that is a gorgeous stone!!! Thank you! I am going to request ASETS on it tomorrow! This is just my starter emerald cut diamond, as we plan on upgrading at least one more time in the future! :)

That is an awesome plan! Since JA requires double the price to upgrade, you are wise to start with a stone in this price range! I look forward to seeing the ASET!
