Hello!

Hopefully this picture comes through ok. I am having a classic 3 stone ring done by SK and these are the pears he has picked with my center diamond. For reference, the center diamond is 3.25 ct (~9.45mm) and the side stones are .85 ct. (~4.5mm-6.5mm), although I am guessing the measurements may be rounded up. I have had my heart set on a similar look to Kristydarlings ring, for those of you who remember it, which was a 3.56ct. center with 1.14ct. side stones on her 3 1/2 finger. My heart sank when he came back with this smaller size, but I guess I was surprised that the picture looked better than what I thought. I do like a a more substantial look vs. dainty. What do you think?

I should add my finger size is 5 3/4.

Thank you!!! I would love your opinions!

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

I thought of Kristy Darling as soon as I saw the picture, before I even read your text.

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

I think they look perfect! Would you really want bigger? I think its great finger coverage the
way it is.

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

It will be stunning! But...if you had your heart set on something more substantial for side pear diamonds, I would ask him to keep looking for a larger pair. Once it's made, if you aren't completely satisfied, you'll always be bugged by the size--- that you'd wished you'd gone slightly larger.

There is no harm in asking him to source out a larger pair to view that option AS WELL as this pair, right?? I'd ask to see 2 options if it were me.

Good luck!

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

I think they look good, and I usually like smaller pears.

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

I might be in the minority here, but go bigger. In a few weeks after wear, you'll wish you had. However, if the look you want is to be a more delicate/dainty look to highlight the center stone, then keep this set, because it is truly stunning. A hard decision, I know, but either way you know your ring will be gorgeous.

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

I think it looks fabulous but I also think it would be safe to go bigger if you like a more substantial look. This ratio is still leaning towards dainty more than substantial. Gorgeous diamonds btw.

ETA: Keep in mind once the stones are set, the pears will be pointing downward slightly and may appear even smaller.

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

I think the proportions look lovely...but it bothers me that you said your heart sank when you first saw the pics. That shouldn't have been your initial reaction! The ring should look the way you want it to - you could ask SK for larger sidestones. I think you should get what you truly want, and not talk yourself into something else.

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

I would go bigger as well.

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

I personally like the proportions too but if it bothers you, go bigger!

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

I like these proportions - it just looks so... complementary... as opposed to competing for the spotlight w/ the center stone. JMHO.

I agree. I think going bigger might take away from the center diamond. These proportions are perfect, in my opinion. You have to do what makes you happy though!

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

Makes me sad to hear anyone say about there ring that their heart sank :((

Just a thought, maybe something more chubby? something almost like a chubby trillion or a heart without the cut in part. I actually saw someone do sides stones WITH hearts and it looked pretty cool actually I think that would give you a more substantial look, because they have more width, and less length. But then again my definition of substantial might be different than yours. but i always think those chubby sides give a lot more "look" toward the middle of your ring, verses spreading it out vertically.

Whatever you do, feel good about it. That feeling that your ring might not be perfect is the worst :blackeye:

good luch :wavey:

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

Sides that are too large take away from the center stone. I would not want those one bit bigger. Kristy's diamond was larger, so these diamonds are just about the same proportion to your diamond as hers were to her center stone. I wouldn't even consider diamonds any larger!

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

Those pears are the perfect proportion, in my opinion!! They are narrow enough to give some shape definition but not too chubby that it gets swallowed up with the center stone.

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

Ask to see lager pears for comparison. I think the smaller ones look lovely buy you. Will never know for sureunless you see bigger ones.

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

Make sure with your tiny finger you can close your fingers together. Didn't Phoenix have a problem when she went too big?

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

Thanks everyone! I really do appreciate your opinions. I am kind of scared to ask for another set of pears because it took over 2 weeks just to get these and I don't want to offend Steven and his expertise! If I did ask for a little larger to compare, do you think he would say he won't do the project?

A bit of history...I bought the center diamond from ERD and Steven had ERD try to find side stones first. I know ERD found 1.58 ct pears (way to big) and 1.38 ct. pears that were just really chubby. I heard ERD found some other options but Steven didn't like them. I don't have many options to see similar rings at home, but I have seen .8 ct pears and I didn't like the look. So, I had in my head that ~1.1 - 1.2 ct size would be perfect (depending on the dimensions). I have also seen 1.9 ct pears but with a 5 ct center stone, which was my original inspiration!

Part of me thinks I should scrap the whole thing, because I am so thrown off by this. Ugh. :( Just last night, I told my husband that I might freak out if Steven came back with .8 carat pears...and sure enough he did...

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

I would ask Steven his opinion on size and I would trust him if he says these are the right size. I think yours need to be smaller than Kristy's in proportion to your diamond size. And I think you'll have excellent finger coverage with a a 3+ ct center and these side stones!

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

Diamondseeker2006 - Thanks! I definitely get what you are saying on ratio, but I was thinking that part of the size Kristy Darling had was due to her tiny finger and I could get away with a slightly bigger ratio with my 5 3/4?

Just another note, I know Lage just got the exact same Steven Kirsch design in February and she had .87 ct pears with a 1.49 ct center stone. I think the proportions looks great with her diamond! Although I know that those proportions wouldn't work with my diamond, it is one of the reasons I feel I should go a bit bigger.

Are we talking .87 cts. for each stone or .87 total weight?

Okay, found her link and they are .87 ctw, not .87 each! I couldn't imagine the sides being .87 each! She has full finger coverage with a 7.4mm center and those sides, so just imagine your much larger center stone with those sides! I agree that you could probably go up to .5 each. But in the overall scheme of things, there is not a lot of difference between .44 and .5 cts.

Kaleigh has a Tiffany ring with a 2 ct center with pear sides smaller than that..around .34 each, and I think they are well proportioned even though I like Lage's ring as well.

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

Sorry if there was confusion, yes .87 ct total weight! I agree that .87 per pear would be huge! I was thinking .5 to.6 ct per pear, total 1.1 to 1.2 for both.

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

Hi, I'm kind of working on the same project although I'm still not sure if I want pear sidestones. My center stone is a 3.31 carat 9.72 x 9.76. I spoke to Leon from The Art of Platinum and he suggested about .5 for each pear side. I actually tried my stone in a setting in my home town that had .7 for each side and it looked fine since they were angled down and kind of tucked under the center. My finger is size 4.75 -5 depending on swelling. I have just put my stone into a plain solitaire white gold setting to wear around until I can make up my mind. Good luck with your ring! Your center stone looks so white and lovely.

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

I'd like them bigger and fatter, but that's just ME - it only matters what you want to see (I'd probably do pear rubies too, so my opinion doesn't really matter)

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

I would recommend keeping the side stones smaller to highlight the center diamond if that is the look you are going for.

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

I like those a lot, but I might go a tiny bit bigger.

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

Thanks again everyone! I really appreciate your opinions and at least I know I am not nuts to at least consider bigger side stones. I am still torn, so I sent an email to Steven today. He said ERD had a few bigger options and is fine with me considering them. Hopefully, I can get pictures of the bigger side stones in the next few days...

It would be easiest to just pick the first pair, because I am dying to get this ring and see the diamond again! But, for the investment, I just want to make sure I will be happy with it!

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

bbziggy - BTW I will be curious what you pick for a setting! Maybe we can be setting buddies! If you went with pears, what size would you go after getting LM's advice and seeing a setting in person?? I have looked at probably thousands of settings (mostly on-line) before landing on the pears...

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

oooh bigger version of my e-ring :) It's lovely! I'm not an expert in any way, but it looks really great!

Re: Help! Do you like the proportions for these pear side s

I like this set but by the sounds of it ... you really don't. You won't be happy unless you go bigger or at least see a bigger set put together.
