I have been looking for an emerald cut diamond for the last few months, and haven't pulled the trigger until now. I ALMOST purchased a gorgeous diamond from James Allen but then decided against it.

Well, about twenty minutes ago I stumbled across this ring on eBay and made an impulsive offer of $2900.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/141819208569?euid=0f703d03e14e46c9b798b7f415ea51fa&cp=1&exe=13453&ext=34391&sojTags=exe=exe,ext=ext

The buy it now price was $5495. Did I get a good deal?? I know it's not certified, but the jeweler did confirm that he believes the color to be F/G for the EC and the clarity as VS2. And there is a 14-day money back guarantee. Thoughts??? I'm kind of freaking out!

Well, it doesn't look like there is a diamond grading report so you really have no way of knowing what you're buying. Just judging by the photos, I wouldn't have estimated the center stone to be colorless at all. But as you mention, the seller does list a 14-day return policy.

I agree about the color, but the photos are pretty poor. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised. :)

Anyone else?

Seems to be a blind purchase to me - details of stone not listed as there is not a grading report. Hope you paid with paypal which will give you a little more security for returning. Hope it all works out in your favor and you got a great deal!!??

+1. Take full advantage of the return policy to get it checked out. The photos are too blurry to check whether it is eye clean. The colour is definitely not as stated because it is very warm compared to the melee diamonds. It is at least a J/K, possibly even lower.

Do you think I offered too much, considering that it pretty much was a blind purchase?? I guess in my mind, I figured the setting alone was worth at least $2,000.

Yeah the last photo really shows some colour. I've seen K steps that don't show that much tint. So I'd estimate lower as well. Def take it for an appraisal and return if you aren't happy.

Just for reference, JA has some J/K emeralds for under 3k. They are certed, and the largest are 1.2. So, you got an uncerted stone, but did get a setting.

The setting is definitely pretty but I cannot tell its quality due to the poor pictures and cannot see how well made the underside is. You have to love the whole package though.

He has already relisted that same auction and listed the color as a K. I would be concerned about quality based on him using the same picture for more than one ring. That emerald cut looks very yellow. I love yellow diamonds, but not when they are supposed to be F/G.

It says at the bottom of your auction relisted due to non payment and it says it on the newly relisted auction as well. He has edited the listing, but did not remove the relisted due to non payment line.

It also says it comes with an appraisal and shows a picture of the appraisal.

No wonder! You cancelled the order. Wish you would have mentioned that in your post. :shifty:
