So, I'm a bit of a control freak and my bf is a lot more lax. He's the type of person that will buy whatever is nice no matter the price. We aren't rich, that can't happen. Anywho, we found a diamond and I need advice on it. We already put down a down payment but are able to change our mind if we wanted too. I've read around and I know what everyone thinks about EGL-International. It is a 1.21 princess cut, xx, I color, SI1 diamond with medium fluorescence. $2600. It is rated by EGL international. It's not the clearest or brightest diamond, but we are still young. Late 20s, I don't want to get something crazy and too much out of our price range.what do you guys think? Thank you in advance.

Do not buy it. Why do you want to overpay for a poorly cut stone that's stats are misrepresented just to get say its a 1.2.

You could a lovely stone that actually performs and I think you'd me much prouder to wear than a crummy large rock. (I say crummy sense you yourself said it doesn't perform)

Carat isn't the end all be all.

Hi, you need to post additional information...the lab reports, images, idealscopes etc. Ask the vendor, if you can't get this info you are very limited to how you could make an informed decision.

Because it is a EGL graded diamond does not make it a bad diamond, it does caution you to know that the grading may be very liberal, so if it is graded a color I SI1, if it is really a color K or L with an SI2 or I1 you must consider this...I have a good friend that purchased a pair of studs that were EGL graded that were beautiful and she loves them....the market should price this stone based on EGL grading, not GIA grading.

Thank you so much for your reply Neil. So you're saying that EGL-international rating is too lax and I may be paying too much. With regards to c-k, i've emailed the jeweler for more information on the cut. I remember her saying it was an excellent cut as well. I'm setting the diamond on a verragio. http://www.verragio.com/Verragio-Engagement-Rings/Parisian-Engagement-Rings/PARISIAN-109P That one to be exact and you guys may be right. I won't know however until we get the verragio and set it with the diamond.
Neil- I looked for over an hour for imperfections and I could barely see it. There were some that could be seen from the bottom of the diamond but nothing that's right in the middle. I couldn't see anything looking straight down at it. The color is what's bothering me more.

I just got the certificate. Here you go.

Is there a reaso you're considering it if you don't like the color?

I agree clarity is fine at whatever grade if YOU are happy with how it looks. But my issue with the grading lab is that it pads the specs in a way that makes it look better than it may be if graded my a stricter lab. So you don't know exactly what you are buying. If you don't know what you're buying how do you know the price is right?
