Help designing pearl studs plus a ruby

So I am trying to decide how big of a ruby to get to go under my mom’s pearl studs (for me. I am turning 57). The studs are 7mm and if I should bezel it and/or attach it or if I should just have a little jacket made.

This will go w/a lab ruby from Finewater set like this.

If I get a jacket, I could swap onto other things like my mom’s gold balls. Or my Andrew Moline gemmies that are 8mm but I don’t know if a jacket with a single stone below works.

Also trying to decide do I go lab cushion or round real.

Anyone have thoughts about the typical size of a drop beloe a pearl?

Also does a jacket as a drop work?

Like this but with a ruby instead of a diamond. How many mm the ruby if the pearl is 7mm? And bezel or no bezel?
