I came across this stone below while shopping at one of the brokers here in town, and thought I would ask what your opinons are on it. I did some searches online, as well as the tool above this page, and it seems to fall in the same price range as similar stones. However, the HCA score is not ideal (in good range only).

Cert: GIA
Measurement: 8.38 - 8.43 x 5.18 mm
Carat Weight: 2.21 carat
Color Grade: I
Clarity Grade: SI1
Cut Grade: Excellent
Depth: 61.6%
Table: 57%
Crown Angle: 34.5°
Crown Height: 15.0%
Pavilion Angle: 41.4°
Pavilion Depth: 44.0%
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None

Yep, that pavilion angle is a problem. It would be safe at 41.0 and possible up to maybe 41.2. But according to information I have read in the link below, you can start seeing leakage above 41. I would skip this stone and get a better cut one if I were spending that kind of money.

Look under: The guarantee of solid or mostly solid red/black reflector images

Based solely on the numbers I agree with DS. It's likely to have leakage under the table. As you view more stones you'll begin to notice that not all stones graded excellent by GIA are equal. You pay a premium for the excellent cut grade, so I would want to hold out for one that is truly ideally cut. If you like to share your budget and criteria we could make recommendations for you.

Thanks for the advice, DS and Christina. I'm glad that I posted the stone here first. I'm looking for a 2-2.3 carat RB with a budget of up to 19k. I know that's asking alot to find something with triple excellent, and very good color / clarity, but I'm going to try my best to see what's out there. I think I'm putting unnecessary stress into this process, but I want to make sure that I do it correctly. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

The two stones ds posted are really nice! You can request up to three idealscope images from James Allen. Maybe you can add this diamond on your list? I just bought an expert selection diamond from Whiteflash and am really pleased. You can ask them why that particular stone missed the ACA cutline. Some ES diamonds are better than other ES diamonds.

Yes, I like this stone as well!

That 2.08 looks amazing!

The 2.08 has a knot inclusion, I personally would not take it just because of the knot. But you can ask JA.

Thanks for the info and help so far, everyone! I'm thinking the best option is to go online to a reputable vendor, however I am still working with a couple different brokers to see what they have before I completely abandon the brick and mortar approach. One of them said they have located a couple and we're meeting tomorrow for me to view in person. I'll let you all know what I've found out.

Can't hurt to look...just don't buy without posting the specs here first!
