Help deciding: One wedding band or two...

I have a jeweler who is custom making a wedding band so it will curve around my engagement ring. Now the question is, do I get one band or two. I like symmetry so I like the idea of two bands, but I don't want them to overwhelm my engagement ring. My engagement ring is very delicate which is part of the reason I like it so much.

I'm leaning towards getting two as it will allow for the most flexibility. I won't be able to get one and then decide later that I want a second one as he wants to make them both at the same time... I think the price is pretty fair for a custom made band with platinum, melee, and hand engraving.

Any help or insights would be much appreciated!

Can you post any pics? More specifics about your center stone? That will help for everyone to give more accurate advice.

Sorry about not including details! My engagement ring is 1.03ct set in an antique platinum setting. The way the basket is on the center stone a normal band can't rest flush against it.

What a gorgeous ring! I love it! Mine is similar to yours, it has engraving and a crown that doesn't allow a band to sit flush. How I got to the set I have now has a back story, which you can read about in my past threads. In the set that I had before this one, I felt like my center stone was totally overwhelmed by the thickness of all of the bands and everything being so matchy-matchy. I got great advice here on PS! I can happily say that I feel like I've finally gotten it right! :appl: Haha. Anyway, my set is a little backwards compared to most - my Ering is narrower than my 3 mm diamond knife-edge bands. I personally love how it looks, and I know that's all that matters. You need to do what you will love. It sounds like you are leaning towards having 2 bands and I say go for it! I love the symmetry of that as well. You just need to find bands that compliment your diamond and Ering well.

Sorry for all of the rambling!! :snore: My point is that it took me a while to figure out what I truly wanted. Some people just have it figured out and never second-guess it. Yeah, not quite my experience, haha!

Good luck and please keep us posted!

Gorgeous ring! It is similar to mine from the top (profile pic), and also from the side but mine is much plainer. I think it depends on how wide the wedding band is...if the band is fairly wide, I think two on either side might detract from your ering. I think you should consider how high the wband is too...if it sits up high on your ering, two bands migh obscure the side view of your ring. Your ring does sit up fairly high though, so this might not be an issue. I guess it's hard to give an opinion without seeing a pic of the wband with your ering. I'm leaning towards one wband, unless the band is fairly thin and sits low on your finger - then I think you could go for 2. But it all boils down to what you like. If you like the idea of symmetry, then you should go for it and get 2.

If you can swing two get it and mix it up, sometimes wear one and sometimes two!

I agree with AprilBaby... esp. since you won't be able to go back and have another one made. Your ring is delicate and very pretty -- I'd make sure the bands are dainty and thin enough as to not "overwhelm" your ering. :))

Thank you for the advice! I'm going to go with two. I'll post pics once I receive them!

Great! Looking forward to seeing them! :appl:

Just a note, many of us have rings that do not fit flush and wear straight bands with them. That way you have the flexibility of wearing the bands alone or in a stack when you don't want to wear the diamond. I really like the way straight bands look even with a gap over curved bands.

I love your engagement ring! But I honestly think two bands will take away from it.

The bands are done and I went with two. I figured it allows for more flexibility and I don't have to wear both everyday. I'm so happy the way they turned out! I just wanted to share!
