Hi,

As the title says, I need some help in making a decision between two stones.
I'm planning my proposal in the next month and am ready to purchase a ring. After reading up as much as I can, I've narrowed down my selection to these two:

A) http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/3.01-carat-g-color-vs2-clarity-sku-597856

and

B) http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/3.06-carat-g-color-vs2-clarity-sku-544267

I'd really like to get something close to the 3ct mark, with as brilliant of a cut as possible, but I'm at the upper end of my budget now.
I think I prefer the cut of A, but wanted to hear the opinions of the experts :)

This will be the largest purchase of my life, so any advice/affirmation is truly appreciated!!

Stone 1 - cut looks mediocre. I would keep looking.
Stone 2 - cut is horrible. It is dead under the table.

I was looking mostly at G VS2

thanks!

This one already has ASET images posted. Which is great. Ignore vendor rating of the stone. It's a cherry stone with excellent performance.

So you have several gorgeous options.

Pick one.

And let us know what type of setting you are looking for and we can get you one that has nice enough quality to match your center stone.

When you look at cushions compare them based on measurements. Not weight.

Wow Gypsy - Thanks so much!!
These all look fantastic :appl: :appl:

I was looking for a halo setting. This is the one I picked but I really cant tell the difference between this one and the others:

Okay. So... I would not put a 40k diamond into one of those settings. It's the equivalent of putting a Ferrari engine in a Hyundai. Now Hyundai's are perfectly good cars. But you just wouldn't do that.

Do you have another 6.5K for a setting of the quality you need? If not, I HIGHLY recommend getting an H color stone, and buying a better quality setting.

Read my posts in this thread:

I recommend either Steven Kirsch or Victor Canera for the setting. It will run around 6500-7,000. Brilliantly Engaged also has a handforged bench (and that's what you want) and they are usually priced more affordably. So that should be your third option.

these have ASETs you might want to compare and consider...the red goes out to the edge
in them which makes the stone look larger:

You might want to get the picture and ASET on this stone. $37,500
I like the numbers and very large and high clarity
3.3c G VVS1 EX/EX

Rarely does blue flourescence make a stone cloudy but you have to ask....
It can give the stone a blue hue in certain lighting, which gives it personality,
and is really cool.

It could be a total dud but with the 67% depth and 57% table I like the numbers.

Good luck with your search.

Do not buy without an image at least. They could be total dogs.
