Hi all,
First time poster here. I'm looking to get some feedback on which diamond you all think is the better diamond and the better deal. Color is not a major concern for me (I think). I am strongly leaning toward one of them, but I wanted to get some good feedback from the experts!! :)

A. August Vintage Round .80 M IF ($2330)
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10512/
Also, I had him shoot this video: (M on the Left)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATZ9FWOg-_A
Concern: is it too yellow? What setting could I use that wouldn't make it look like I was hiding the M color, but celebrating it? In other words, I want it to make the M color choice look clearly intentional.
Biggest draw: AVR's are such incredible performers, and I love the chunky look--not to mention how powerful those big flashes are!
I could also choose that comparison daimond (the .81 K) if the M color is too yellow. Price difference is only $200.

B. Round Brilliant .84 K VS1 ($2600)

IS for the .84 K
"It has a great amount of fire, brilliance and scintillation that is very well balanced throughout the diamond." --JA gemologist.
Concern: Crown angle is a little steep for ideal (but super symmetry probably makes up for it mostly). K color is not yellow enough for appearing intentional, and not white enough for a white setting.
Benefit: Super symmetry, the rotating image looks like it's a great performer

They are two completely different stones, and I'm having a hard time making a good comparison. My bottom line is this: which diamond will have more "wow" factor. I have my opinion (probably pretty implicit throughout)... please let me know yours!
Thanks all!mattdelete.jpg

This couldn't be more exactly like me!
I was picking between that exact AVR and a .84 K VS1

I went the the k because that was a little cheaper and I wasn't sure I'd be as happy with M as I would with a k. The k color looks very "bone" not too tinted, not lemony or creamy, just a lovely off white color. An avr is of course lovely too. Another reason I did t pick it though was because I appreciate a vintage ring, but for me I'm more "timeless", than I am "vintage", and that cut in that color is going to be vintage. If I was to get that M, to play up the color like it was intentional I'd set it in yellow or rose gold vintage solitaire similar to this. I think its just a matter of what style ring you're going for.

Actually another way to play up the m color but to make it modern would be to set it in a yellow or rose gold tiffany style bezel

Honestly I think either would be lovely. The avr will be more unique. I think its just a matter of who has the setting you like, and how comfortable you are with color.

Thanks so much for your suggestions, Neil. I do like the second setting in gold for the M--the AVR's look so much like flowers, and I'd love to have a floral-type theme to the ring.

Does anyone have thoughts about the slight leakage under the table of the Idealscope image (0.84, K, AGS0 cut, VS1)?

Finally, does anyone think that because of this leakage, it simply wouldn't compare in overall performance to the August Vintage Round I've selected (the M)?

Thanks!!

My vote is for the AVR, in a rose gold setting.

The JA stone is very beautiful too, but AVR's are truly stunning!

The k looks really nice I'm sure it would be a nice performer!

Eta at that size a k is very white looking. Mine is in white prongs and it looks good.

If it were me, (of course you aren't so just a suggestion  )

You seem to really be drawn to the m. I'd go with that. I'd get the bezel because it'll play well with the color, and adding like a halo to make it more floral will draw attention to the color sense the melee will be noticeably whiter, so id avoid that.
So id get the bezel in 18k yellow gold, and I'd pair it with this to be super Tiffany's, super floral, and super classic. :wink2:

I like the GOG M color I agree it is a special looking stone and yellow gold or I prefer rose gold will play up the color. Or if you set it in white gold you could have the stone sit in yellow gold prongs

i would buy the AVR K si2. The inclusions are on the edge of the stone and prong able and i couldn't see them in the magnified video.

Here is a great comparison of an AVR to a MRB H & A. AVR's are simply the best IMO...even though the L is a lower color
it is so much brighter than the I color H/A...PLUS no one will have a stone like your AVR:

L color AVR vs I color MRB Hearts and Arrows vs. J color AVC:

Here's a thread with an M AVR in Tacori yellow gold - it's stunning!

 are you kidding me!?!? Without a doubt, among the most gorgeous settings I've ever seen. That's a showstopper, and for me, it's in the same "Plato's ideal forms" category with Ritani's Endless Love setting. I don't normally like regal looking things, but wow. Just the right amount of everything like a boss.

I may want to budget a bit more for the setting.

I love the M AVR a lot. It's gorgeous. My M's and L center AVC's are in unplated wg and I like them better in it than when they were in all yg. Don't get me wrong, they were still gorgeous in yg, I just like them better in the unplated wg.

I adore AVR's and would definitely choose it over the other. Good Old Gold does carry Tacori, Beverley K, and Gabriel and Co, all of which make antique style settings. But you need to be very sure of her style preferences before choosing a yellow or rose gold setting. (If this is for yourself, then you can have fun choosing a setting!)

I like the K SI2 AVR, it looks bigger and a little whiter than the M.

I'd get the K VS1 if it is significantly bigger than the AVR.
