First off I would like to say this site has been invaluable in information and resources when it comes to purchasing diamonds. Thank you everyone.

I''m looking for a round in the .9 to 1.1 size, vs1-vs2, F-G and trying to stay under 6k. I like performance and cut. Here is what I''m trying to decide between. Both diamonds are close to the same price. See any problems? Will both perform?

If you have ran across others then please let me know.

Woud their price compare to a H&A piece?

Hi RM-

Personally, I'd go for #1. I put more faith in an AGS cert than EGL, I really like the HCA score, it's a nice tight cut (little diameter variation) and as far as clarity, I prefer not to pay for a VS1, since there probably won't be a visible (without a loupe) difference between that and a VS2. It might be helpful to get IdealScope images of the two stones to help in the decision.

PS. staying just below that "magic" 1.0 ct mark will probably also save you some $$$, with what's probably a nearly indiscernible difference in size...

That's exactly what I was going to say!

Also, have you seen the diamonds in person?

Lynn

I, too, would go with the .942ct one. The numbers suggest an extremely well made stone, and an AGS cert is always a good thing to start with.

valeria101- 1 carat H&A are about 1.5k more from what I can tell.
quaeritur- I've got a DiamCalc simulation for #1 attached.

I like the price, cert., and qualities of #1 the best. I will probably go with #1. I just wanted to post to make sure there were no major red flags that someone might see on this great forum.

Thanks for the other comments as well. The cut diam. is right in there with the 1 carats of lesser quality. Size doesn't matter anyway if they can't see you coming due to the blinding array of shock and awe.

I will hold on this a bit longer to see who else replies.

rock me,

Thats an easy choice, go with # 1 ags cert G VS2 is an excellent combination and the crown angle of 34.1 with a pavil 40.7. it should still be a ideal cut next year when the new ags grading system comes out. is this a H&A stone?

vttiger86- The diamond was not listed as a H&A. I'm new to this but I think that image was computer generated and maybe the H&A is just a template and what it is trying to show is just the light leakage. Can someone help I'm not sure.

AGS is coming out with a new grading system?

I think so too. These models are just as good as the numbers plugged in, of course - impossible to tell what exactly was used to generate that image: the same numbers as for the HCA or a complete report accounting for minor facets and facet alignment. Obviously, only the second version would indicate anything about probable H&A - for all that matters.

The G-VS2 is the more tempting of the two - as you say.
