Help decide if this pear is a keeper?

I purchased this 3.02ct pear from Adiamor after having them get me the stone I originally saw on Ritani.


I don't know what it is about it - when I saw the video prior to buying it, I didn't notice a lot of bow tie action. Now that it's on hand, I see a bowtie in the situation that everyone says you SHOULDN'T see one, which is bright direct LED lighting like you'd have in a jewelry store. It behaves almost like an ideal round does where it goes dark in direct lighting. It looks amazing in indirect lighting, inside stores, etc.

I'm trying to decide if this stone is a keeper or if I should send it back and try to find one that is a little more uniform in appearance. Maybe that's not even possible with a pear?

If it's not a keeper, I think I need some help finding a good pear in the 2.5-3ct range, dimensions 7.5-8 x 11.5-12. Color H or above (this is a G/VS1). Budget around $5k including a plain solitaire setting ~$700 or so, so $4300 for the stone.

I think I'm leaning that way. I do really love the ratio, though.

Many fish in the sea with that ratio, just have to be patient! You can set l:w ratio in the search field for most sites

I do like the look of the 2.51. the 2.71 is second - the 2.59 has a video really similar to the one I chose already.

I was also eyeing this one, which has dimensions and ratio similar to the one I got - but I just am unsure how to pick one and I wish there were videos either tilting forward and back, or rotational on the side the way James Allen does them.

I actually really do like the look of the 2.68.
This is why they're so hard because the faceting on your pear is actually really pretty in it's video. It really is one of the hardest to pick without seeing it. There isn't really much of a trick that I'm aware of other than ratio. The only other thing to be done other than trial is ask for more video comparisons where they pull a few and compare them in video.

Yes, I've bought a lab from Jon before - unfortunately I don't love his LGD pears as the shape is very elongated and I'm more of a 1.5-1.6 ratio person. what he has in stock at the moment in this size is priced 4x what this stone was/what my hopeful budget is...I know I give some things up service-wise with saving the money.

Truly, the stone only shows darkness in direct bright LED type lights - in sunlight and diffuse lighting it is really pretty. I'm waiting for the Adiamor rep to get back to me about a return or suggestions for what to do.

I have reached out to a couple of dealers that I know to see if they'd be willing to select a stone for me and added a little bit to the budget accordingly. I think this is going to be the best way to get what I'm hoping to get, as I really want a pear, but don't think I'm going to luck into one selecting on my own.

I would NEVER consider myself an expert, but I've bought a pear or two (much smaller, mind you), and I don't think this stone is bad at all. I'm not seeing much of the usual bowtie, and it has a lot of light play.

Unfortunately, because of the stone's size - the darkness is a real contrast from the good light play elsewhere in the stone. Especially under lights that should be favorable.

The good news is I have put a deposit on a 2.79ct F/VVS2 that I chose from a handpicked selection today, and I'm super happy with it. Now on to design a setting!

The good news is I have put a deposit on a 2.79ct F/VVS2 that I chose from a handpicked selection today, and I'm super happy with it. Now on to design a setting!

Oh yay! I am so glad you found one you are super happy with! What are the measurements and what are you leaning towards for a setting? I love pears so much, but have decided on an Emerald for my next project, so I will be living vicariously through your beautiful project! Also where did you end up finding your stone?

I have learned the hard way that what you see in the stone now you will never unsee. If you aren’t 100% sure about it, I would return and start again. This should be something you look at all day every day and just be in love with it.
