Hi All - I'm building an engagement ring for my girlfriend. I've included a picture of what I'm targeting, though probably with a smaller stone. Below is a summary of key considerations, but open to recommendations:
  • Carat: 2.5+
  • Color: G or better
  • Clarity: VS1 or better
  • Other: No or little bow tie effect
  • L/W Ratio: 1.3-1.4
  • Budget: $35K
Any recommendations on stones that fit the build below would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help!

What is your budget for the stone?
Have you seen Distinctive Gem’s signature Ideal Cut ovals? @Rhino

I would definitely think about one of the ideal cut ovals from Jonathan if I were you. Looks like he doesnt have anything in the 2.5ct range right now, but I'd contact him to ask what might become available. Those ovals are the best available.

As an oval lover, I am struck by how harder it is to recommend ovals for online purchase. It is all about LOOKING at them closely to see if the bow tie is minimized enough and if the stone is nice and lively and not mushy. I think everyone immediately brings up Distinctive Gem because he has basically eliminated the bow tie, from what I understand. However, some people truly want a more traditional oval cut with all its personality and different face-up. Is there a jeweler you know or trust that could pull a number of stones for you and sit with you to really look at them? I was able to do this through a wonderful jeweler in Chicago’s diamond district and am very happy with my stone, which is admittedly much smaller than yours. Just warning you that I am not sure people will be able to pull diamonds for you from different sources like they do for rounds as the proportion rules do not apply.

Thanks for the suggestion! I emailed Jonathan to see what they have or will have available. My budget is $35K on the high end
