Hi All,

I have been reading a lot on this forum and this is my first post because I''m about to purchase a diamond for my wedding proposal. First I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the forum. This forum is full of detailed information that helped me narrowing down my diamond search.

Below I have selected three diamonds from James Allen which seemed to be fit the various criteria posted in the forum, but since I''m not a expert, I would like to ask you guys for your opinions.

1st:
table: 56
depth: 61
crown angle: 35
pav angle: 40.6
polish/symm: EX/EX
ct: 1.21
clarity: vs1
color: I
Girdle: thin-medium

2nd:
table: 55.9
depth: 61.5
crown angle: 34.0
pav angle: 40.8
polish/symm: ID/ID
ct: 1.217
clarity: vs1
color: I
Girdle: faceted 1.6%-4.1% (not sure if that is thick or thin or medium)

3rd:
table: 56
depth: 61.1
crown angle: 34.1
pav angle: 41.1
polish/symm: EX/EX or ID/ID
ct: 1.14
clarity: vs2
color: I
Girdle: faceted 0.7%-5% (again not sure if that is thick or thin or medium)

I have attached the idealscope image for all three diamonds.

Thanks

All three IS images are very good.

Here is a chart to help with the AGS girdle %

The second diamond would be Thin to Sl Thick and the third, Thin to Thick, but as 5% is the cut off from Sl Thick to Thick, I wouldn''t worry about it.

All that said, I personally prefer the second diamond, but any of the three should be very nice.

Hi Ravervx

They all look great, I tend to like the second image best but they all look very good. Here is a useful chart to help you with AGS girdle percentages,

They all look very nice. I''d go with 1 or 2 too.

#2

Thanks for all the input. I was leaning toward 1 & 2 as well and couldn''t decide. Now, I will most likely get #2.

I forgot to mention that #2 has negligible fluorescence. While the other two does not. I know negligible fluorescence is not a big deal but if you where to chose from a diamond without fluorescence and one with slight fluorescence which one would you chose?

Also a final question about color, I read some where that you can chose a lower color for round diamonds. Will color I be ok since most people suggest an H.

Thanks

For an I, some fluor is a good thing

Colour - it really will depend on you and your intended.

AGSL is of the opinion that all stones has some fluorescence, so they will never give a no fluorescence grade, negligible is their minimum grade. Fluor is also a personal preference thing and the present dislike of it is a fad, it used to be highly sought after in D-F grade before the 70s and now is discounted. Personally, I prefer a stone with VSB fluor that does not exhibit oily/hazy look in sunlight.

Color is personal preference again and on your color sensitivity too.

Negligible for fluorescence is a term AGS use as they prefer the term to none, feeling as they apparently do, that all diamonds can have even the most minuscule amount of fluorescence. Really even with slight/ faint, you would probably never even know it is there, it is medium and above that you really need in order to see any visible effects.

I colour can be an excellent choice, it is said that some in the industry believe the lay person can pick up a very slight hint of warmth in I colour, especially from the side view, but for the most part this is not an issue. If you are unsure, you could go and view some I colour of similar, size, shape, cut quality and lab grade in order to see what you think.
