I love 5-stone rings. I've not really had much luck finding one to suit me though. This will be my third and it's becoming too frustrating a venture.
This is my 1st 5-stone. http://youtu.be/a5_N_y7xu3E
It was made by DbL although I purchased it from another party. The ctw is 1.90 so the Daussi cushions somewhere in the area of .38ct each. I LOVED this ring (for a little while). The problem I had with it was that my finger is so large (Size 8.5), you could see metal on each side and it ruined the "wall of diamond" effect I wanted. The prongs on this ring are ABSOLUTE PERFECTION and it's beautifully made. I did not like the way that no matter which way I turned my finger, there was windowing in the stones. Can't be avoided with Daussis I guess. Soooooo...on to the next 5-stone....
I got the 2nd 5-stone from BGD. It is the "Open Gallery" model in Platinum. http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/wedding-and-anniversary-bands/eternity-bands/open-gallery-5-stone-platinum-5388p
The diamonds are all .40s ctw of 2.04. I LIKE this ring but I don't LOVE it (no fault of the ring, it's well-done). I've discovered that I do not care for platinum. All of my other jewelry is Yellow Gold and although it isn't fashionable right now, it is the color best suited to my skin tone. I am positive going forth that I will purchase a Yellow Gold ring. I got the "wall of diamonds" that I wanted and no windowing. Yay! No metal peeks out from the sides. I am not crazy about the large beaded prongs though.
The color on the DbL ring is E. I learned that I like warmer stones. The color on the second ring is J. I learned I like my stones even warmer than that. That brings us to the 3rd ring.
I have a stone set in a solitaire that is beautifully warm. It is 1.75ct. I purchased 4 stones that match the color perfectly! They are all GIA stones K, Faint Brown .70 VS2 VG cut/.71 VVS2 VG cut/.35 IF EX cut/.35 VVS2 EX cut. I do not know or understand enough about stats or ASETS or any of that -- just the basics and I think they are nice stones. They certainly LOOK nice to my untrained eye. It was pretty hard to get K stones that weren't yellowish. I much prefer a brownish tint.
So here is my question...does anyone have a suggestion on what I can set them in? I need it to be yellow although the top/head/basket/or even just prongs can be white (platinum I suppose, I am allergic to nickel). What I disliked the most about the other two is that they were both low-set flat "band" rings. On my big hands they looked a little masculine IMO -- kinda "brass knucklish"? I thought the graduated stones would allow for something more graceful. I see everyone's rings and they look beautiful on Size 5's and such but when I get a similar one, they look pretty small on me. I think the stones are large enough this time but I want them to look like more of an Engagement Ring this time and less of a Wedding Band if that makes any sense. I've been in the 5-stone ring thread, now I'm more undecided than ever.
If someone could pleeeassseee point me in the right direction -- just far enough to get me off and running -- I'd be ever so grateful!! I've been spinning my wheels for months now.
